FinQuery is looking for a Database Engineer/Database Administrator to join our dynamic Engineering team. We’re seeking someone with a passion for improvement; both in our processes and in yourself. In the role of a Database Engineer/Database Administrator at FinQuery, the main emphasis is on maintaining, enhancing, and ensuring the efficient performance of our PostgreSQL databases. 



This role will be responsible for ensuring optimal query performance, carrying out regular database maintenance, and addressing scalability concerns to support our growing data infrastructure. There is particular emphasis placed on RDS experience/optimization, PostgreSQL expertise, and the ability to enhance the performance and integrity of our databases.

What you will be doing:

  • Administer, monitor, and optimize AWS PostgreSQL databases to ensure they are scalable, reliable, and performant.
  • Monitor system and application performance, implementing tuning as needed to ensure optimal operation.
  • Engage in daily interactions with Development teams and other departments to create an integrated, efficient work environment.
  • Assess and provide constructive feedback on developer-driven data architecture changes, ensuring optimal database performance.
  • Triage and optimize query performance to maximize database efficiency.
  • Participate actively in release and deployment processes, contributing valuable expertise and oversight.
  • Identify and implement internal process improvements, including redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.
  • Conduct maintenance on RDS systems, ensuring their effective operation and longevity.
  • Assessing current data schema and implementing improvements for efficiency and performance (eg. breaking up tables, removing redundant columns, reviewing indices)
  • Proposing new technologies and practices as solutions or improvements to existing systems

Tech you will work with:

  • Hosting and Administration: AWS RDS/Aurora
  • Communication: Atlassian Jira, Slack
  • Database: PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server
  • DataWarehouses & Integration Systems: Snowflake, FiveTran, Celigo, Boomi
  • Analytics and Logging: DataDog, Tableau
  • Build and deployment tools: Git, Liquibase, Jenkins
  • Languages: SQL, Python, Shell Scripting

What experience and skills we need you to have:

  • 2+ years in a data/database engineer/database administrator role
  • 4+ years of experience working with databases and data architectures in any IT role
  • Experience designing, building, deploying, and scaling databases 
  • Solid understanding of data architecture
  • An attitude of success defined in team accomplishments
