Job Summary
Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is looking for an enthusiastic, well-qualified individual to fill the Database Engineer position. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and talented group of individuals committed to driving success.
The ideal candidate will design, deploy, maintain, and provide Tier 3 engineering support for enterprise database, storage, and networked storage systems. This role ensures the availability, integrity, performance, and recoverability of data systems supporting mission-critical operations across distributed and wide area network environments.
The Database Engineer is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, system updates, replication strategies, data recovery, and storage optimization, while providing technical recommendations to support system upgrades and project integrations in compliance with DoD and Intelligence Community standards.
Key Responsibilities
The Database Engineer will:
- Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise database and storage solutions supporting DIA mission systems
- Provide Tier 3 support for database, storage, and network storage appliances
- Install system patches and perform database and storage platform updates
- Manage storage allocation, capacity planning, space utilization, and replication strategies
- Analyze and resolve complex issues related to storage systems and network storage solutions
- Troubleshoot and restore enterprise-wide storage and replication issues across wide area networks
- Perform data recovery operations to ensure system continuity and mission availability
- Monitor system performance, availability, and integrity to prevent outages and data loss
- Provide technical recommendations for storage upgrades and system enhancements
- Support project integration efforts, system migrations, and modernization initiatives
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and recovery plans
- Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity, data protection, and operational requirements
Skills and Experience
The Database Engineer must have:
- Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance
- 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise database and storage systems in Department of Defense (DoD) or Intelligence Community (IC) environments
- Experience supporting enterprise database and storage systems within Department of Defense (DoD) or Intelligence Community (IC) environments
- Strong knowledge of database engineering and administration principles, including Network-Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Networks (SAN), and enterprise storage architectures
- Experience implementing and supporting data replication, backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
- Experience troubleshooting complex storage, replication, and performance issues across Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) environments
- Familiarity with patch management, system updates, and lifecycle maintenance of enterprise storage and database systems
- Ability to analyze system performance and recommend scalable storage and infrastructure solutions
- Experience providing Tier 3 engineering support for enterprise storage and database environments
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise, mission-critical, or Intelligence Community information systems
- Familiarity with disaster recovery, continuity of operations (COOP), and high-availability architectures
- Ability to participate in after-hours, on-call, or emergency support as required
Education and Certifications
The Database Engineer must meet the following:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Database Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
Preferred
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Vendor-specific database certifications (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)
- Storage or infrastructure certifications (NetApp, Dell EMC, VMware, or equivalent)
- CompTIA Server+ or Network+

Security Clearance
Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner, and that may include lifting up to thirty pounds, as necessary.
