Position Overview:
Do you have a passion for database administration and can perform under-the-hood operations for cloud / Colo hosted Database Platforms along with supporting modern development methodologies? We are looking for a seasoned cross-trained DBA Tech Lead in SQL (primary) and Sybase/PostgreSQL (secondary) to join our fast-paced and highly talented Freddie Mac Database Operations team. Someone who has the right attitude towards DB platform health, best practices and efficient management. A self-starter, fast learner who’s comfortable driving DB specific RCA to conclusion. Someone who can write DB maintenance/automation scripts one day and able to drive team discussions and solutions the very next day
Our Impact:

Responsible for and expected to 24x7 administering, configuring, troubleshooting and supporting Database Platform including production and non-production environments.

Protect production by exercising sound judgment and following operational practices and procedures

Writing and managing scripts and utilities to automate day to day database administration.

Assist with the monitoring and perform performance analysis of existing applications and ensuring that the systems are consistent with ongoing need.

Write technical documentation, operational procedures, Incident and problem communications and reporting.

Quickly restore service during system outages, provide troubleshooting support to team members, perform proactive problem prevention, and escalate technical details to management/Sr. Tech Leads and other stakeholders.
Your Impact:

Provide leadership on enterprise projects and initiatives related to Database Operations and work across team lines and with vendors on delivering solutions to complex database performance problems, best practices, conducting and developing configuration and compliance audits.

Cross-trained technical leadership in Microsoft SQL Server (primary skillset) and Sybase/PostgreSQL (secondary skillset) database administration.

Drive performance enhancements and operations approach with our infrastructure and product development teams to maximize the value of our products for our external and internal customers.

Maximize quality of the production operations service to exceed the contractual SLAs (e.g., performance, availability, RTO, RPO) for each of our products.

Make recommendations on how to reduce hosting complexity/improve operational agility and efficiency

Lead/coordinate with a world class DBA team and be an individual contributor.

Communicates effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative technical solutions and strategies

Be part of the team for on-call rotation and issues resolution activities as required

Perform regular health checks on environments

Write and manage scripts and utilities to automate day to day SQL (primary skill) and Sybase/PostgreSQL (Secondary skill) Database platform administration
Qualifications:
-
Over 10 years of DBA SQL Server subject matter expertise.
-
Over 5 years of cross-trained tech lead DBA expertise in SQL Server (primary) and Sybase/PostgreSQL (secondary)

Strong working knowledge of Always on Availability Groups, Performance Tuning, Database Backup, Governance and Compliance Controls, Monitoring and Maintenance.

Nice to have working knowledge of Sybase ASE and Sybase Rep Servers/Rep Agents
-
Strong working knowledge of setting up and using monitoring tools like Quest Foglight for SQL server and (or) Sybase/PostgreSQL monitoring and Sybase MDA tables for auditing.

Strong scripting knowledge using PowerShell and (or) shell / Perl.

Certified MCSA DBA and (or) AWS SysOps Associate desired

Excellent understanding and working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

Advanced skill in communications and leading teams in a highly matrixed environment

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $129,000 - $193,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
