Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Database Management:
    • Manage the installation, configuration, and upgrading of databases.
    • Ensure databases are running efficiently and effectively.
  • Performance Tuning:
    • Monitor database performance and implement optimization techniques to improve performance.
    • Diagnose and resolve performance issues related to databases.
  • Patching:
    • Apply patches, updates, and upgrades to databases in a timely manner.
  • Database Maintenance:
    • Conduct routine maintenance to ensure the stability and reliability of database systems.
    • Ensure index and statistics maintenance is current.
  • Backup and Recovery:
    • Ensure that disaster recovery plans are tested and effective.
    • Perform regular database backups and recovery procedures.
  • Security Administration:
    • Enforce database security policies and procedures.
    • Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Troubleshooting and Support:
    • Provide advanced technical support for complex database issues.
    • Work with development and application teams to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • On call:
    • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours and weekend support.
  • Maintenance:
    • Conduct routine maintenance to ensure the stability and reliability of database systems.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, changes, and procedures.
    • Create and update operational and troubleshooting guides.
  • Collaboration:
    • Coordinate with other IT professionals, including system administrators and network engineers, to ensure seamless integration and operation of database systems.
  • Project Involvement:
    • Participate in database-related projects, including migrations, new implementations, and upgrades.
    • Provide expertise and guidance during project planning and execution.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay current with industry trends, product updates, and emerging technologies.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance database management and performance.

Position Specifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent IT experience. Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle or Microsoft Certified Associate) are a plus.
  • Experience:3-5+ years of experience in Oracle or MS SQL Server database administration or a related role. Demonstrated experience in managing and optimizing databases in a production environment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of the Oracle 19g database administration
    • Experience in SQL Server, Postgres, and MongoDB database administration
    • Experience with Oracle Engineered Systems required
    • Experience with Oracle Dataguard, RAC, and Golden Gate
    • Proficiency in Database architecture, features, and tools.
    • Advanced knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL and T-SQL.
    • Experience with database backup and recovery tools and techniques.
    • Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Solarwinds, or other database management tools.
    • Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting.
    • Understanding of following Change Management procedures to deploy system changes.
       
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work in a 24x7 on-call rotation
