The University of Miami Health System (“UHealth”) IT Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Database Administrator.
The Database Administrator maintains database by identifying and resolving requirements and supports users. The incumbent assumes responsibility for the performance, integrity, and security of applicable database(s). An employee in this position also oversees the planning and development of databases and troubleshoots any issues on behalf of users.
Core Responsibilities:
Manages the data dictionary of the enterprise.
Sets standards and controls the necessary infrastructure process associated with the database(s).
Provides troubleshooting and technical system support for the database programming group.
Provides senior technical leadership to database design teams, database programming groups, and IT.
Remains cognizant of the future direction of systems and on how that direction will impact the enterprise.
Serves as a source of documentation and standards to help direct the activities of IT as a whole.
Works closely with other IT groups to coordinate current and future plans and activities.
Provides reports on system problems and solutions and forecasts future utilization and equipment requirements.
Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.
Makes presentations for local and national user groups.
Publishes articles describing both the enterprise’s activities and assessments of technology.
Collaborates with hardware and software vendors in the assessment of advanced transaction processing and database productions, including beta and field test participation.
Performs at or above the enterprise’s information technology performance standards.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Department Specific Functions:
Responsible for design, installation, management, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of database systems.
Develop and assist project managers and directors with the creation of task-level project plans that detail the specific tasks required to deliver a solution.
Develop, test, and implement system changes and upgrades.
Develop, test, and implement database system backup, restore and DR processes.
Document technical designs with charts, diagrams, schemas, and descriptive software component documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Minimum 5 years of database administration experience in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and MySql.
Knowledge of business and management principles.
Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
