POSITION SUMMARY: This Senior Database Administrator position will be responsible for managing database code, peer reviewing other developers' work, index strategy, query tuning, and enforcing database system standards. The Sr. DBA will work closely with various development team members in an Agile environment to design and consult on new and existing systems for performance and reliability. As part of a team of database professionals, the Sr. DBA will help maintain and improve Republic Services' 250+ database servers.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure that new database code meets company standards for readability, reliability, and performance.
• Peer-review code from other developers and approve/maintain code in a versioned code repository.
• Assist ETL, Report, and other developers to improve the performance of their database code.
• Review resource-intensive queries on the server and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
• Design indexes for existing applications, choosing when to add or remove indexes.
• Advise developers on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc.).
• Write and improve SQL Server T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions.
• Use tools and DMV queries to answer questions about index usage and code performance.
  Provide guidance and leadership for other team and department members.
  Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Performance Tuning, Query Execution Plans, Stored Procedures, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Data Warehousing, and DBMS internals.
• SQL Server 2016 and higher on virtualized platforms.
• Database architectural design and performance assessments.
• Windows Server 2016 and higher.
• Experience as an AWS Cloud Engineer is a plus
• Possess expert knowledge of the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
• Capable of prioritizing and managing assignments, tasks, and significant projects to completion with minimal supervision.
• Ability to create and maintain documentation of development standards in use at Republic Services.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to work in a team and individually in a project environment.
• Ability to interact with IT personnel on all levels to resolve issues and provide solutions in a timely manner.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelors degree or higher in Information Technology or related field of study.
• Minimum 5 years applicable experience with the following: development and support in multiple database systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, and mysql.
• Writing database server code, preferably T-SQL.
