The Data Science team at Extra Space specializes in using analytical techniques to optimize pricing and promotion strategy, to develop keyword bidding strategies, and to determine optimal marketing mix. Over the last 10 years this team has played an important role in Extra Space producing sector leading top line performance.

The primary role of a Data Scientist at Extra Space is to effectively develop, configure, and enhance the scientific models within the recommendation engines developed for pricing and marketing. To be successful you need to be an analytical problem solver who enjoys diving into the data, and can successfully work with other data scientists, business leaders, engineers and developers.

Primary Responsibilities

• Uses analytical and technical skills to drive overall revenue by continually finding ways to improve business strategy and enhance the advanced analytical systems at Extra Space.
• Regularly partners with business stakeholders across the company to build consensus on priorities, develop roadmaps for testing and analysis, drive execution, and determine business impact for revenue-generating ideas and projects.
• Uses statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to improve demand forecasts for revenue management and paid search bidding systems. Develops models to recommend the best course of action to increase revenue and to reduce costs.
• Frequently communicates test results to many stakeholders across the company, including senior leadership and executives.
• Mentors and coaches data science colleagues, shares best practices, and contributes to the overall upskilling of the data science and analytical teams at Extra Space.

Job Specifications

• Proven analytical and data driven decision-making skills
• Ability to manage large data sets, synthesize and communicate findings
• SQL, R or Python programming skills
• Team player with excellent collaboration skills
• Highly motivated and high level of energy and enthusiasm

Education and Experience

• A Master's Degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, or economics; Requires 4 - 7 years' experience in applying advanced analytics to drive business outcomes
