PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Role is considered to be the Career Level. Perform detailed analysis and prepare comprehensive reports to support business operations. Conduct complex modeling, forecasting, trending, variance analysis, business case development, and other general financial and operational analysis. Monitor and coordinate activities to manage operational performance (e.g., safety, reliability, service level, productivity, etc.). Research and provide statistical financial and operational information. Track, maintain, analyze and provide current information on the operation's business scorecard or key performance indicators (KPIs). Develop, organize and present performance reports for both internal and external use. Develop and conduct short-term and long-range business planning. May develop, implement, evaluate or lead projects or initiatives (e.g., business plan or process improvement initiatives). Provide broad analytical and operational support to the business unit. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and maintain an expertise of Legal and financial (active and historical) business processes, policies and system functionalities for Legal matter management including Legal reporting tools and financial reporting; support corporate transactions, mergers, and integrations; manage a professional and dynamic working relationship with Finance, vendors, and consultants
  • Develop operational budget, forecasts, cost reduction and trend analysis for BSC Legal and embedded business units; generate reports, prepare statistical and analytical data for management review
  • Facilitate management of outside counsel, including targeted pricing support for rate negotiations, alternative fee arrangements, requests for proposal and analyze rate proposals; financial modelling and scenario analysis to support pricing decisions and improve pricing analytics
  • Develop and generate monthly actual versus budget variance reports including quarterly and full-year budget variance reports for management review; requires knowledge of Legal Matter Management system, financial system, advanced Excel, and accounts payable systems
  • Liaise with Legal vendor billing staff to support outside counsel billing tasks; invoice resolution, monitor invoice submission in accordance with Billing and eBilling Guidelines and law firm inquiries
  • Prepare monthly BSC Legal and embedded business unit's monthly accruals; analyze variances and trends;
  • validate accruals from outside counsel and vendors; prepare journal entries and obtain required support
  • Legal projects / duties as assigned


JOB SCOPE

This position assists in the preparation of monthly analyses, budgeting, planning, month-end close activities. The position will also coordinate information requests with various Business Units. Must be committed to producing products of high quality.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Associate's degree in Business or Accounting and business experience involving data analysis and report writing or comparable training
  • Position requires a high degree of professionalism; demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication with peers, work groups, management, vendors, and clients
  • Must have strong client service orientation and high-level customer focus
  • Must have strong analytical skills and attention to detail; ability to understand end to end business processes
  • Must have proficient and advanced knowledge of Excel for data analysis (pivot tables, vlookup, etc.) and working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint and expense account systems including knowledge of general ledgers
  • Must have knowledge of matter and e-billing systems, including knowledge of reporting systems and ability to build ad hoc reports
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training and support
  • Ability to work long hours and to work well in an ambiguous environment; must be able to work under demanding time constraints; willingness to accept increased responsibilities and work independently; ability to meet critical deadlines and is accountable for completion of tasks

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business or accounting
  • 10 or more years professional experience with a legal environment
  • Recent experience in a legal environment
  • Ability to maintain working knowledge of all software installed on the Legal desktop
