Job summary
The Red Hat Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) team is looking for a Senior Manager of Data Engineering to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will design, develop, and test solutions for relevant business needs in an open and collaborative environment. You'll collaborate with Red Hat's internal business stakeholders to enable data-driven decisions for managing the end-to-end life cycle of our offerings. To succeed in this role, you'll need excellent data infrastructure and data architecture skills, a proven record of leading and scaling data engineering teams, solid operational skills to increase efficiency and speed, solid project management leadership, and a clear vision for how BI can proactively improve companies.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Proactively promote the vision for data engineering across solution delivery teams, and define and deliver on a plan to achieve that vision
  • Define the processes needed to achieve operational excellence in all areas, including project management and system reliability
  • Build a high quality BI and data warehousing team and design the team to scale
  • Build cross-functional relationships with business leaders, data scientists, product managers, and software engineers to understand data needs and deliver on those needs
  • Manage data warehouse plans across the portfolio
  • Manage the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production
  • Manage development of data assets and support new data and analytics solutions
  • Increase data quality across the project portfolio and related business areas
  • Manage the delivery of high impact dashboards and data visualizations
  • Define and manage service level agreements (SLAs) for all data sets and data pipelines running in production


Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience delivering data and analytics-related solutions or offerings
  • Extensive knowledge of data warehousing and data lake tools, patterns, and processes
  • Experience scaling and managing 7+ person teams
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Advanced knowledge of extract, transform, load (ETL) tools like AWS Glue, AWS Athena, Spark, Airflow
  • Experience in SQL or similar languages and development experience in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, etc.)
  • Experience with full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Communication and leadership experience as well as experience initiating and managing projects

  • Experience leading cross functional initiatives
  • Ability to think systematically and be effective at navigating ambiguously defined business problems
  • Thrive in fast paced "start-up" like environment with a growing team
  • High standards for quality of work
  • Experience working with customer relationship management (CRM) systems like Salesforce.com (SFDC) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems like Oracle EBS
  • Experience consulting on data and analytics transformational initiatives
