First Orion is seeking a talented Senior Data Scientist to join a leading mobile software vendor in the Data Solutions Group. Individuals in this role will use their intense curiosity for data and data mining skills to dive into large datasets. They will be asked to use their discoveries to build and shape the products and solutions that will be the foundation for First Orion's success in the future.
What you'll be doing:

• Model development - creating scoring and predictive models utilizing heuristic approaches, statistics, and supervised and unsupervised machine learning methodologies
• Data discovery - identifying new data sources and novel applications of existing data
• R&D - assist in developing/creating new data products or solutions for future business opportunities
• Data quality analysis - creating and monitoring quality control processes for model input/output and defining new ways to "know our data"
• Model improvement - conduct logical analyses of pre-existing models, identify areas of improvement, and formulate mathematical models to solve relevant problems utilizing advanced analytics and robustness analyses.
• Support the deployment and maintenance of analytical solutions

What you'll need:

• Masters or PhD in data-analytic discipline (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering)
• 3-5 years work experience with big data analytics, machine learning, and statistical modeling
• Proficiency in a programming language (e.g. Python/R/Scala) with a willingness to master Scala
• Strong problem-solving and 'big data' handling skills
• Experience engaging with senior leadership and key stakeholders
• Experience in coaching and mentoring junior scientists
• Deep knowledge of time series anomaly detection
• Proficiency in SQL
• Ability to self-direct and work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to recommend business/modeling decisions based on the data, domain knowledge, and analytical findings
• Strong communication (verbal and written), technical leadership, and project management skills

Bonus Points:

• Prior experience in the telecommunications industry
• Prior experience in ML applications of fraud detection
• Amazon Web Services experience
• Knowledge about big data platforms
• Hadoop/Spark experience
