The Senior Data Scientist for Medicare and Retirement business segment within UHG/OPTUM. In this role you will be responsible for leading and driving the AI/ML driven solutions to provide personalized experience for customer facing web application using Leverage state of art emerging technology and pattern such as graph, NLP, DS models to understand, predict and guide customer with next best action. This person will work with various stakeholders on business & IT side to brainstorm and understand critical conversion touch point and provide solution to personalize customer experience with the goal of improving online enrollment.
This person needs to be proactive to research various industry trends, solutions, and best practices to see how those approach can be applied on our website to provide recommendation, next best action & personalization purpose. This person would also mentor junior data scientist with their day to day activities.
In this role you will be responsible for leading and driving the AI/ML driven solutions to provide personalized experience for customer facing web application. Leverage state of art emerging technology and pattern such as graph, NLP, DS models to understand, predict and guide customer with next best action.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Produces innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from unstructured, diverse datasets
  • Develop and Manage Data science product for personalization, recommendation system
  • Apply various Techniques like Forecasting, classification, Time series analysis, Graph for data science and analytics purpose
  • Applies knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and makes valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement
  • Performs basic theoretical and experimental technological investigation directed toward solving analytical problems
  • Develops pioneering approaches to industry trends
  • Uses a flexible analytical approach to design, develop, and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data
  • Ability to learn and implement new concept/technologies
  • Mentors junior team members

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of SDLC experience
  • 2+ years' experience with data science: developing, modeling, and analytics
  • Experience using different techniques for personalization, anomaly detection and forecasting
  • Experience in programming language with strong support for analytical processing such as Python, Scala, R, Haskell, Julia, matlab, cuda, etc.
  • Experience with analytics tools such as Spark, notebooks, PANDAS, H2O, RapidMiner, Tensorflow
  • Experience with different kind of visualization tools: such as Kibana, Grafanna, Vega / DS libraries

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience managing big data, (NO-SQL platform line Elastic, Splunk, or Cassandra)
  • Good understanding of various scripting languages such shell scripting, ruby
  • Experience with big data platforms
  • Local to Minnesota
  • BS Degree in Computer Science / Math
  • Healthcare or e-commerce experience

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only : The salary range for Colorado residents is $79,700 to $142,600. The salary/hourly range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $87,900 to $156,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
