The Sr. Data & Reporting Analyst will be responsible for creating, analyzing, and delivering a well-designed portfolio of dashboards and reports for both internal and external stakeholders. Using an in-depth understanding of Optum Enterprise Issue Management's delivery and operations, this individual is accountable for leveraging data to help craft the story around Issue management activities, performance, prediction and outcomes. To succeed, this position will compile, analyze, and validate crucial data utilizing solid data collection skills, which will allow for trend recognition and analysis of overall performance compared to the department's benchmarks.
This individual will need to have a natural desire to go beneath the surface of a problem to ask the right (business) questions and produce answers in support by digging into large data sources and applying statistical rigor. The ideal candidate will have a knack for thinking "Big Picture" as well as enjoy digging into the details, applying 3 key elements to challenging healthcare problems: Analytical Rigor, Creativity and Business Focus.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, test, deliver and maintain comprehensive data analysis, reports and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with and advise operational leaders to define and deliver Key Performance Indicators, benchmarks and trending metrics needed to operate the business
  • Access, extract and merge data from different sources, formats, platforms and systems; perform data scrubbing techniques to ensure data accuracy, including parsing, data transformation, duplicate elimination and statistical modeling
  • Present complex data to non-technical end-users in a clear and concise manner through reporting visualization tools
  • Prepare presentations and participate in meetings with client teams and/or clients to present ROI, value-added services, business metrics or other key business intelligence
  • Independently identify patterns and trends and provide new insights to the business
  • Author and maintain documentation of reporting and reusable knowledge assets
  • Maintain and/or update business intelligence tools, databases, dashboards, systems or methods with updated requirements and new data sets; develop bests practices for report deployment
  • Maintain a solid understanding of department operational processes and SOPs and how daily workflow components translate into internal and external reporting

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, and Reporting Analyst, facilitating and documenting requirements (such as process flows, test cases, and/or business requirement documents) gathered from both business and IT counterparts
  • 2+ years of experience with working with Databases (i.e.SQL etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience with report writing and/or utilizing BI visualization tools such as Oracle, Tableau, Cognos, or MS Power BI
  • Demonstrated advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative/business field
  • 4+ years of data analytics experience or healthcare analytics
  • Proven knowledge of healthcare administrative data (medical claims, enrollment, provider data)
  • ETL process and tools experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of extracting and developing key consumer insights within a population, distilling insights, and presenting to business leadership
  • Proficiency and understanding of IT management, data storage structures and the various ways data can be applied to aid in business intelligence
  • Demonstrated solid organizational skills, time management and critical thinking skills
  • Proven solid verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability and comfort presenting to senior leadership, including at the C-suite level
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, effective in synthesizing, evaluating disparate data, and generating insights
  • Ability to be extremely collaborative, proactive, held with high integrity, as well as highly reliable

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
