Description

The Stars program is the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) five-star quality rating system for measuring Medicare beneficiaries' experience with their health plans and the health care system. The program is a key component in financing health care benefits for MA and MA-PD plan enrollees. In addition, the ratings are posted on the CMS consumer website to help beneficiaries choose among the plans offered in their area. Quality metrics include screenings and vaccines, managing chronic conditions, member experience with the health plan, member complaints, and customer service. In 2020, Humana achieved 97% of members in 4+ Star plans. This measure of quality of Humana's Medicare plans directly impacts our members' health.

Stars Analytics uses data science, public health, business intelligence and Stars expertise to solve meaningful problems for Stars business partners. Our analytics drive Humana's Stars performance and improve the health and life of our members by transforming data into advanced analytic solutions. The team practice user-centered design to provide powerful and intuitive tools that enable our customers and stakeholders to gather insights and make data-driven decisions that improve the member experience and health outcomes.

Responsibilities

The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer develops tools, technologies and applications used to collect, integrate, analyze, and present Stars-related data in order to create insightful and actionable business information. Dashboards and reports are developed to provide a new level of understanding, influence and track execution of the department's strategy focused on improving the quality of care our members receive. The Senior BI Engineer decides on the technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction with a considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Main responsibilities primarily involve the following:
  • Work with the Product Owner to understand business problems and develop the right solution
  • Develop healthcare analytics visualizations based on UX Designer sketches/mock ups
  • Work collaboratively with teammates to optimally apply data warehouse, cloud and BI architecture, and visualization techniques
  • Work collaboratively across the team and organization to design, build and maintain analytical solutions to support Stars
  • Identify and understand business problems to help the team design the right solution
  • Enable customers to derive insights from the tools provided by the team
  • Ensure solutions provide the highest quality of data on a daily basis
  • Contribute to moving the team towards cloud-based BI platform


**This role will be Hybrid Office; which means you'll be in office 3 days and you may work at home 2 days per week**

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • 3 or more years of data analysis/BI tool experience
  • Advanced experience working with big and complex data sets within large organizations
  • Advanced in SQL Server and/or other data systems
  • Experience analyzing data to solve a wide variety of business problems and create data visualizations that drive strategic direction
  • A strong attention to detail and sense of curiosity
  • Experience automating, simplifying business processes, and/or streamlining workflows using Python or similar product
  • Experience communicating information through data visualizations
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication to senior leadership


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Ability to create data visualizations using PowerBI
  • Intermediate to advanced Python programming
  • Experience in data mining, forecasting, simulation, and/or modeling
  • Healthcare analytics solutions experience


Additional Information

Vaccine Policy:

Humana and its subsidiaries require vaccinated associates who work outside of their home to submit proof of vaccination, including COVID-19 boosters. Associates who remain unvaccinated must either undergo weekly negative COVID testing OR wear a mask at all times while in a Humana facility or while working in the field. Every associate and contractor who work inside a Humana facility or in the field, regardless of vaccination status, must complete a daily health-screening questionnaire.

Work-At-Home Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.
  • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information
