We are looking for an experienced data scientist who is passionate about leveraging data to help create and improve real-world solutions to improve member care. This position will support Government Program Quality Analytics as a Principal Data Scientist. The Principal Data Scientist will collaborate with other business areas to achieve STARS quality metric improvements. This role will conduct analytics on a variety of data sources to identify optimization opportunities and recommend data driven strategies to improve disease management, health ownership and member engagement.
Positions in this function produce innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from unstructured, diverse datasets typically measured in gigabytes or larger. Applies knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement. Uses a flexible, analytical approach to design, develop, and evaluate predictive and prescriptive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data. Works with analytics and statistical software such as SQL, R, Python, Hadoop and others to perform analysis and interpret data. This function is not intended for employees performing the following work: less complex analysis on small data sets; rules-based algorithmic or descriptive analytics; development of big data infrastructure

  • Research, design, implement and deploy scalable machine learning solutions
  • Develop intelligent analytic work products that produce insights for improving member care and to drive STARS performance improvements
  • Effectively communicate complex technical results into actionable recommendations to a range of business partners including clinicians
  • Work in a cross-disciplinary environment to embed analytics into strategies that address business problems through data-driven solutions
  • Influence senior leadership to adopt new ideas and approaches

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Data Science or related field
  • 5+ years of experience with predictive modeling, segmentation and machine learning methods
  • 5+ years of experience using Python, SAS or R for modeling
  • Experience in a big data environment integrating and extracting insights from information across multiple platforms


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD
  • Experience with Spark, H2O, Graph
  • Solid knowledge of health care industry or experience with human clinical research studies in a business environment
  • Data visualization skills such as PowerBI, SuperSet, Tableau
  • Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid concepts; understanding of plan types such as MAPD, DSNP
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a great deal of autonomy in a business environment while managing multiple priorities

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $94,500 to $171,700. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $94,500 to $171,700.
