The role is crucial to lead and guide Data control and Data Quality processes to support Claims Operations, Actuarial, Product and Pricing, Marketing, Sales, Legal/Regulatory, Finance, Competitive Intelligence, etc., as well as external partners supporting these business areas.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. (Note: Philadelphia, PA area is preferred.)
Primary Responsibilities:
The Principal Data Analyst will:

  • Formulate plans for establishing and operating a data quality practice.
  • Facilitate and document meetings with stewards, stakeholders and development teams
  • Prepare formal reports and presentations of findings and recommendations.
  • Provide thought leadership and participate with projects that involve any of the upstream or downstream data flows and processes
  • Propose practices that will prevent data problems
  • Conduct audits of data quality using sound sampling and statistical estimation techniques
  • Conduct profiling of data sets to ascertain and validate data domains and relationships


Additionally, the role will include the following responsibilities:

  • Work closely with business partners, Legal, Operations and other cross functional partners to assess and strengthen the Data control environment
  • Develop procedural steps, controls and change management process with appropriate teams to ensure proper data governance and controls exist
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding our data, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Collaborate on data audits and evaluations of new and existing controls aligning to UHG standards and policies
  • Engage/support vendor/internal IT resources to facilitate resolution of data usage issues

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in applicable area of expertise or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 7+ years of Project Management experience
  • Experience translating technical complexities to end users
  • Prior experience with Data Management projects such as Data Governance, Data Quality, Master Data Management, Reference Data Management, Metadata Management; Hands-on experience defining and testing data controls
  • Experience working in Risk organization; good understanding of risk assessment, identification, and mitigation
  • Proven track record and accountability in making quick decision that have an immediate impact on business strategy
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Healthcare or Insurance experience desired
  • Commutable Distance from Horsham / Philadelphia, PA
  • Ability to work independently but also in a collaborative environment to achieve the objectives
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to see the big pictures with high attention to critical details
  • Success in implementing Data Governance policies and standards
  • Success in implementing a data quality practice in a large company
  • Experience is relating compliance and quality initiatives
  • Experience with automated systems that require full history and traceability, and in articulating the quality impact of these features
  • Solid communications skills to facilitate meetings with various stakeholders, communicate ambiguous topics in a structured manner

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900.
