Head of Climate Impact and Analysis (Remote)
Overview:
This position is responsible for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver emissions analysis, reporting and strategy at M&T Bank. The focus will be on leading the work to measure, report on and validate the scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3 emissions, including financed emissions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for development and execution of emissions reporting strategy (build v buy, pilot scope, assurance, etc.) with collaboration from key stakeholders
- Leads the organization to measure emissions in accordance with the greenhouse gas protocol
- Owns the creation and validation of the emissions measurement and reporting process through external assurance
- Builds and designs quantitative and qualitative reporting including data management validation, analysis and processes.
- Partners with stakeholders to ensure integrity and timeliness of reporting
- Develop and manage external relationships to advance M&T's emissions measurement strategy with industry groups, educational institutions, consultants and NGOs
- Partners to support goals and target setting within environmental sustainability including enterprise adoption, analysis and reporting plan, industry comparisons, and execution planning
- Collaborate on meaningful and effective communication and education plans and content with internal partners for all levels of the organization
- Lead the organization in awareness of trends and developments within climate impact analysis; establish brand as internal expert through to Executive Management; prepare Executive Leadership for external engagements
- Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management
- Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable
- Complete other related duties as assigned
Scope of Responsibilities:
Partner with cross-functional working teams throughout the Bank to design, build and deliver comprehensive emissions measurement strategy, goals, targets and reporting
Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:
Will indirectly manage partnerships across the enterprise. Requires the ability to build consensus, and move projects forward despite roadblocks and competing organizational priorities.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and 10 years' proven ESG, risk, financial, operations and/or project management experience, OR
- A combined minimum of 14 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 10 years' proven ESG, risk, financial, operations and/or project management experience
- Strong analytical, technical and database management, visualization and reporting skills
- Curiosity, drive and passion on the ESG subject and all matters that support it
- Strong presentation, communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral
- Ability to conduct independent research and communicate findings
Preferred experience:
- Experience with energy and environmental data analysis and reporting
- Knowledge of greenhouse gas protocols, CDP, PCAF, and other sustainability reporting standards
- Strong knowledge of current tools and trends in ESG/sustainability reporting and disclosure, especially regarding TCFD requirements
