About the Role:

We are looking for an Austin-based Engineering Manager that puts people over process. You will provide hands-on leadership for a full-stack team that builds scalable production-quality software in a fast-paced environment. You will join a capable creative team solving unique business challenges in the last mile logistics space.

You understand that leadership is about serving your team and creating a space for developer autonomy and ownership. You have delivered production-quality software. Engineers respect how you run teams and treat people. You enjoy talking about technical topics as much as you like talking about the development process and the career growth of your team. You want to be on the frontlines with your team.

• You’ve built high-quality software, solved technical problems at scale, and believe in shipping software iteratively and often
• You have a track record of hiring, retaining, and managing high-performing teams
• You have experience managing a globally distributed team
• You possess solid communication and people skills
• You are constantly looking for ways to improve yourself, the team, and the company with fresh ideas
• You effectively collaborate with customers and key stakeholders
• You consider the effect of your work across multiple teams and proactively manage potential issues
• You are technically proficient; ability to go low level if necessary
• You have solid engineering fundamentals

What You’ll Do:

• Effectively and fairly protect your team’s time
• Mentor and develop individual’s careers
• Through good ideas and influence overcome technical and communication challenges
• Help developers improve their skills and grow their careers
• Drive effective and efficient delivery of our roadmap
• Collaborate with Product Management on business requirements and ensure the design, development, and delivery of them
• Ensure delivered software meets quality, architectural, and operational standards

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Acting as a Technical Team-Lead for 1-2 years 
• Excellent communicator

Preferred Qualifications: 

• 8-10+ years of experience in software engineering 
• 3+ years managing teams 
• Experience with containers and Java-based microservices
• Experience with high volume SaaS data platforms  

Technologies We Use:

• Our application stack runs entirely on Docker – frontend and backend
• Our infrastructure is on AWS and uses managed services whenever possible. Current examples: RDS, EC2 Elastic Container Service (Docker), Kinesis, SQS, Lambda and Redshift
• Java is our language of choice for long-lived backend services
• Python for tooling and data science
• Postgres is our SQL database of choice
• We have a modern Javascript frontend built on Node, React, and GraphQL
