Role Description:
As Verana Health reinvents how research happens with data and technology in the healthcare space, we are growing our Quantitative Sciences team to solve complex real-world problems across multiple therapeutic areas, including urology, ophthalmology, and neurology. We are looking for a Director that will specifically help to oversee the Quantitative Science team members working with our American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS® Registry, which is the largest specialty clinical database with over 70 million unique patients. The team works closely with clinical data derived from electronic health records in support of both internally driven research areas as well as commercial projects. We are looking for an individual that is experienced in overseeing a data-focused team, currently consisting of at least 10 scientists, and has effectively collaborated with relevant cross-functional stakeholders, including executive leadership. This role will report directly to the Head of Quantitative Sciences. Built on the values of continuous learning, cross-functional collaboration, and rigorous scientific research, the Quantitative Sciences team strives to improve patient care by innovating at the intersection of real world data, clinical context, and methodology with our partners to ensure all available data is being used to in the most efficient, data-driven way possible.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Verana Health is looking for a Director with a background in health data analytics and experience managing a team of biostatisticians, data scientists, and/or epidemiologists.
Responsibilities
- Define strategic and operational objectives for the Quantitative Sciences team working with Verana’s ophthalmology-focused database
- Effectively prioritize across potentially competing priorities and serve as a point of escalation
- Accountable for research and development efforts as well as commercial retrospective clinical studies leveraging real-world ophthalmology data, which includes creation of statistical analysis plans, implementation of analyses, development of algorithms in support of research objectives, and/or writing of publications
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams (e.g., Commercial, Product, Medical, Engineering/Technology, etc.) to align on priorities and key roadmap initiatives
- Develop and foster team growth, which includes identifying development opportunities for direct reports
Basic Requirements:
- Master’s or doctorate in a quantitative discipline (e.g., biostatistics, data science, epidemiology, etc.) or equivalent practical experience plus an additional 5+ years of industry experience
- Deep understanding of messy healthcare data (e.g., claims, electronic health records, outcomes data) and analytical methodologies
- Hands on people management experience
- Strong familiarity with health data analytics tools, especially SQL, Python, R, with an emphasis on analysis and reporting of results
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry’s strategy and business processes, including clinical trials, drug development processes, and clinical operations
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders
- Clear communication skills and able to deliver internal/external presentations
