Description:

Chewy is looking for a Data Architect II to serve as a hands-on technical leader who will contribute to our rapidly growing and continued success. This is a crucial role leading our journey to establish and mature capabilities across the pillars of insights and analytics, data science, business intelligence, and data enablement for one of the world’s most renown and successful customer service teams.

You will also be responsible for partnering with Analytics teams to evaluate and integrate new datasets and platforms while continuously improving data capability and documentation across our verticals.

The ideal candidate has proven experience integrating and scaling data applications, strong technical problem-solving skills, and success in delivering scalable data architecture. The ideal candidate excels at developing and delivering in fast-paced problem sets and building trust to partner cross-functionally. This individual is a highly proficient contributor and has proven experience delivering high quality results with minimal direction from leadership. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required as this role will interface directly with cross-functional teams to roll out new tools, communicate infrastructure changes, and advocate data best practices.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and implement data solutions best-suited to deliver on our needs and use cases — from streaming, to data lakes, to analytics, and beyond across a progressively evolving technical stack.
  • Provide thought leadership by recommending the right technologies and solutions for a given use case, from the application layer to infrastructure; and have the leadership and coding skills (e.g. Python, Java, and Scala) to get solutions into production while ensuring performance, security, scalability, and robust data integration.
  • Drive success in a collaborative way and communicating insights for identifying new areas of opportunities that will drive Chewy's value and growth goals forward; coordinate with the stakeholders to prioritize and lead the changes to production.
  • Enjoy working seamlessly across a variety of technologies and business verticals
  • Proactively monitor existing metrics, propose new metrics, and work across the organization to make actionable intelligence available to business stakeholders through the development of novel data solutions.

What You'll Need:

  • Proven success as a technical lead and individual contributor
  • Deep expertise of core data platforms: Snowflake, AWS, Azure, Hadoop, Databricks
  • Strong knowledge of integration technologies: Spark, Kafka, event/streaming, Streamsets, Matillion, Fivetran, NiFi, AWS Data Migration Services, Azure DataFactory, Google DataProc or other data integration technologies
  • Programming expertise in Java, Python, Scala, or another modern programming language
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and the ability to write, debug, and optimize SQL queries
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience
  • 8+ years as a Software Engineer or Data Engineer
  • 4-year Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

Bonus:

  • Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, or equivalent advanced academic degree
  • Data modeling experience in eCommerce, Retail, or Merchandising
  • Knowledge of business intelligence technologies such as Tableau and Power BI
  • Knowledge of machine learning and time-series forecasting techniques
