This is an exciting role in the growing OptumCare division within UnitedHealth Group. Our ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about working with data and driven to deliver creative and compelling solutions which turn data into actionable information for our business. The role will be responsible for analyzing, designing and developing innovative data visualization solutions which drive business insights. Tableau is our preferred platform but just as important is a solid foundation in data visualization best practices and techniques. This role will partner with developers, other business analysts and reporting/data customers to understand data needs. This role will partner heavily with our IT partners to implement data structures needed to support analytics/reporting/client data needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the team to communicate business and data requirements and iteratively design visualizations for initial concepts and prototypes that can be presented to customers for feedback
  • Perform detailed data analysis and testing (i.e. determine the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples)
  • Troubleshoot data quality and logic/mapping issues affecting visualizations to determine root cause
  • Define, execute, analyze, interpret and approve complex/nested SQL queries
  • Collaborate with data governance to define standards and best practices for managing dashboards and related technologies (e.g. versioning, run books, quality controls)
  • Partner to establish best practices for data structures to support reporting and analytics
  • Support activities to document, evolve, and communicate artifacts developed using Tableau and the reporting database
  • Provide technical assistance and cross training to other team members
  • Partner with technical team to resolve report and data issues submitted by business partners

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in business / finance including analysis experience with a solid understanding of data storage structures
  • 3+ years of experience in translating business requirements into technical requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in analysis of business processes and workflows, and providing evaluations, benchmarks, and/or process improvement recommendations
  • 3+ years with data warehouses/marts supporting BI and reporting needs
  • Experience writing free-hand SQL queries
  • Business analysis experience
  • Intermediate level experience in SQL and Excel
  • Solid understanding of data interpretation, best practices and techniques


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Health Administration or related field
  • Experience with data governance processes
  • Experience with Tableau
  • Healthcare domain knowledge, particularly with clinical data structures
  • Familiarity with Salesforce.com data sources
  • Solid communication and collaboration skills when working with stakeholders to drive change

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
