Position Summary


HASI is currently seeking an Analyst / Associate with interest in renewable energy and climate solutions to join our team. This individual will work in the Investment Group on the Credit Team in building and managing HASI’s investment portfolio. The types of investments will primarily include energy efficiency projects, while also collaborating with other teams on other technology sectors. The core responsibilities of the role will include supporting transaction execution, capital markets execution, business development activities, and ongoing asset management. Specific tasks include analyzing and creating financial models, completing, and tracking due diligence, reconciling financial documentation for transaction execution, and communicating across internal business units.

 

Responsibilities

Investing Activities


Build and manage financing models, including underlying project operating cash flows, to analyze and structure investments and evaluate the associated risks. Work closely with cross-functional finance team (Investment Group, accounting, and portfolio management) and conduct market research to develop appropriate assumptions for project investment models.

Support transaction and due diligence processes for investments, including analyzing terms in underlying project agreements including service contracts, construction agreements, and financing agreements.

Conduct credit analysis on transaction counterparties and communicate findings. Collaborate with colleagues in risk management to determine collective view on transaction risks.

Work closely with broader Investment Group in all facets of investment execution, from initial qualification evaluation, term sheet development, internal investment proposal, due diligence, and documentation closing.

 

Capital Markets Activities


Support the securitization process, including assisting in negotiation of documents, facilitating investor due diligence requests, supporting the closing process, and managing the financing model.

Synthesize credit analysis and research comparable transactions to assist discussions with investors.

 

Portfolio Management


Work closely with the members of the Portfolio Management and Risk Management teams to provide specific investment expertise to assist in commercial decision making relating to investments.

Support servicing of assets including modifications and consents, facilitate communication with clients and investors.

 

Specific Recommended Knowledge and Skills


Very strong MS Excel financial modeling and data mining skills, with demonstrable experience working with financial models.

Strong MS office skills including PowerPoint, familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, innovative, entrepreneurial environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills (to include listening)

Dependable and reliable, attention to detail and organized, excellent at taking initiative, can work independently without close supervision, proactively communicates with colleagues and superiors, analytical thinker, comfortable multitasking, collaborative team member.

Familiarity with energy markets, project finance, climate investing, and/or capital markets preferred.


 

Education and Prior work Expereince


Bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution with strong academic record and coursework in finance, economics, environment, engineering, or other relevant areas of study.

1-4 years’ experience in finance, energy, or environmental markets preferred.
