The Position

Ford Global Data Insights and Analytics' is looking for a Chief Data Engineer to be the enterprise expert in data engineering, enabling us to deliver relevant data driven platforms and solutions in the cloud for enterprise use, built on a superior Data Factory foundation. The Chief Data Engineer provides thought leadership to teams across the enterprise, as well as the hands-on ability to build and implement data pipelines. This individual will also work with recruiting, training, and development teams and third parties to attract Data Engineering talent and develop training plans to for Data Engineers at all levels, with a focus on cloud native tools.

Responsibilities

  • The Chief Data Engineer is the "go to" person for solving complex data pipeline challenges in Data Engineering domain (enterprise level)
  • Works with a small team and cross-functional partners to facilitate cloud migration, solve difficult data challenges and build and implement data pipelines in Ford's Data Factory, enabling the delivery of data and analytics solutions
  • Identify, attract, and develop Data Engineering talent through inspirational technical and professional leadership
  • Role model "software and data first" mindset to drive internal disruption to accelerate value creation through use of modern, cloud native technologies
  • Works closely with IT and Architecture teams driving maximum commonality and re-use of data solutions across the enterprise
  • Supports Analytics Application teams globally to deploy and optimize solutions for the enterprise
  • Leads the development of Data Engineering competency in all region, including the professional development and training for Data Engineers

  • Deep knowledge of and passion for Data Engineering and discipline to ensure quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction
  • Ability to work across teams to design and implement data pipelines, and continuously improve existing solutions
  • An expert regarded by industry peers as one of the top thought leaders in Data Engineering


Experience

  • Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, or Applied Science
  • 10 years' experience in Data Engineering, Data Science and/or Software Engineering
  • Hands-on work in cloud migration and data and analytics cloud native tools, Google Cloud Platform experience preferred but not required
