Axon Business Intelligence
The Axon BI team is on a mission to create and foster a company-wide data culture, where everyone
a) speaks the same "data" language
b) utilizes accessible reporting and analysis tools that point to common-sense data models, and
c) understands the lifecycle of data, from system-of-record data entry/telemetry to business metrics.
This Business Intelligence Developer role will sit in Axon BI's "Axon Data Warehouse" (ADW) squad. This squad is responsible for modeling and building both foundational and reporting datasets; building and certifying reports that serve multi-use needs across Axon; administering visualization and analysis tools like Tableau and Power BI; training end users; gathering requirements for new reporting requests; and investigating and remediating data quality issues. Members of the ADW interface closely with the other Axon BI squad (Data Engineering and Data Science & Analysis), as well as all end-users of Axon BI tools and data, across the company.
Your Impact
You will play an integral role in designing, building, and iterating on Axon's first enterprise-wide data warehouse, which integrates disparate data sources across the company to form a holistic picture of Axon products, services, and operations. You will create data models that scale by leveraging your deep and broad knowledge of business systems, business process, and business intelligence best practices - we don't want to reinvent the wheel unless we should. Bring your experience and your ideas and we'll work together to find the best solutions to help Axon data scale. You will help drive the strategy, implementation, administration, documentation, and training on various methods for accessing and interacting with data in the warehouse (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Synapse Analytics, etc.). Most importantly, you will multiply insights at Axon by enabling our end users - technical and non-technical roles across Product, Manufacturing, Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain - the ability to self-serve.
Your Working Style
You think big and long-term, while remaining agile and flexible. Your high standards and industry experience will help our team continue to raise the bar for BI, and your helpful and "can-do" attitude will make others want to partner closely with you. You have a problem-solving mindset, with the tenacity to push through ambiguous obstacles, develop better ways of doing things, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You are a great communicator, with the ability to cater your message to your audience, as well as distill complex information and ideas into a digestible, easy-to-follow narrative. You know how to own a project from requirements to delivery.
Your Day to Day
At the beginning of the year, Axon BI works with partners, stakeholders, and each other to define annual goals, both at the team level and individual level. All individual goals "ladder up" to team goals, and all team goals are long-term, strategic, SMART, and focused on furthering our mission to create and foster a company-wide data culture. Ultimately, a day in the life for any member of the BI team is working towards these goals, while balancing incoming ad-hoc requests from stakeholders.

  • 5+ years of work experience in business intelligence, data engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience using industry-standard, cloud-based solutions for data warehousing and ETL (Azure and/or AWS), as well as data visualization (Tableau and/or Power BI).

  • Proven track record of successful written and verbal communication to stakeholders of varying technical depth.
  • Intrinsically motivated, with the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision in a fast-paced environment, solving ambiguous problems.
  • Optimistic attitude and highly collaborative.
  • A sense of humor.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of Azure data solutions, specifically: Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Purview (or Data Catalog), and DevOps/Git
