BUSINESS ANALYST- SHARED SERVICES SUPPORT

Job Summary

Southern Company is seeking a professional Business Analyst to join our Shared Services Support (SSS) organization to support the PowerPlant fixed asset, lease, and tax accounting software system. The system is comprised of modules that maintain capital assets throughout their life cycles, calculate book and tax depreciation on these assets, maintain leases, and compute current income taxes, deferred income taxes, and property taxes.

Job Responsibilities :

Support the PowerPlant system

  • Support the monthly close. Analyze, explain, and resolve any questions or problems encountered during the close
  • Use business knowledge, accounting expertise, analytical skills, and experience to recommend and implement robust, best practice solutions
  • Resolve system problems in a timely manner by investigating problems using analytical skills, programming skills and, when necessary, working with the software vendor. Follow Southern Company change management policies and work with our Technology Organization to implement any required changes to the system.
  • Perform system configuration and processing requests from the internal clients we serve
  • Test and verify new software versions
  • Understand the new Enterprise Foundations environment and its impact on the PowerPlant system. Provide support for go-lives.
  • Obtain a detail understanding of interfaces both into and from the PowerPlant system. Use expertise and analytical skills to maintain these interfaces.
  • Learn PowerPlan Modules
  • Expand your knowledge of the PowerPlant suite of modules. Acquire expertise in multiple areas of the system

Job Requirements

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Accounting or a related discipline is required.

Job Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of experience with financial or accounting systems is required
  • Experience with the PowerPlant system, although not required, is encouraged
  • Previous experience providing end-user support to multiple user groups
  • Working knowledge and understanding of processes and procedures related to Accounting processes desired
  • Proficient in data management skills with experience using SQL to query data required to analyze and solve problems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required for this position
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with SQL is required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office application tools with emphasis on Excel Pivots required
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Proactive problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; communicating effectively across all organization levels
  • Demonstrate sound business judgment and outstanding customer service
  • Work effectively across the entire organization - with non-technical and technical professionals
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks
