We are looking for a highly motivated, team-driven Analytics Engineer to join the expanding Data Science and Analytics team at Greenlight. The data team at Greenlight is committed to a mission of providing trusted and accurate data insights to drive action, measure impact, and be a proactive source of information to drive decisions. We are committed to a strong company culture of data literacy, high data quality, and rigorous data decision making. A key piece to unlocking rigorous and high quality data is in providing well-formed and structured data to business analysts, data scientists, and the advanced analytics team. We are seeking an Analytics Engineer that will help us bridge the divide between unprocessed data and information and clean, performant data.

This individual will be key in working with analysts to understand the key use cases and identify data model solutions to enable rapid and accurate data insights. The Analytics Engineer will also work closely with all aspects of the business ranging from product, marketing, engineering, and finance to fully comprehend the changing business logic. Working closely with the Data Engineering team, the Analytics Engineer will develop data models using dbt and SQL that provide well formed and clean data easily digestible by analysts.

In addition to building data models via a deep understanding of the business, the Analytics Engineer will be expected to maintain documentation of the data and models, and will also be a data steward, providing governance and oversight of the data documentation. Leveraging the deep understanding of Greenlight’s data, the Analytics Engineer will support analysts and data scientists by providing quality control and review of SQL code, ensuring data models are used consistently and correctly to drive action and measure impact.

This is the perfect opportunity for an individual passionate about data, who has a drive to solve complex problems, and has the ability to grow alongside our team and our company. The ideal candidate can delve deep into the inner workings of data, develop creative solutions, and demonstrate the ability to effectively build higher-level abstractions to support complex business problems and needs.

What you will be doing:

  • Write data models using dbt and SQL that encompass common business processes and provide data to analytics and data science
  • Build a strong understanding of the technical and business aspects of the Greenlight product and business functions and apply that knowledge effectively
  • Work with various data warehouses and ETL tools
  • Contribute to the quality control and assurance process via code review, process creation, and helping to inform process development
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and threads concurrently and at high level
  • Stakeholder management and engagement across product, marketing, finance, and engineering teams
  • Develop and communicate strong opinions about best practices in Analytics Engineering
  • Develop and maintain strong practices on data rigor to ensure trust, accuracy, and transparency in our data
  • Optimize data models and SQL to ensure high performance

What you should bring:

  • You have 3+ years working on data teams as either a data engineer, data analyst, or data scientist
  • You are proficient in analytical SQL, and possess advanced skills that allow you to build high-performance and re-usable data models
  • You have enterprise data warehousing experience, preferably with Snowflake or other cloud-based solutions, and are familiar with modeling and ETL/ELT best practices and tools (e.g. dbt)
  • You have a strong background in engineering design principles with demonstrated ability to develop reusable and scalable solutions to complex problems
  • You are entrepreneurial and show leadership potential to identify and fill gaps where needed
  • Working cross-functionally is a way of life for you. You thrive in environments where you must bring different disciplines and points of view together, as well as balance competing priorities and deadlines
  • You act. You know how to make things happen and figure out workarounds when the team hits roadblocks. You anticipate and plan for potential major problems
  • You have an ownership mentality and have a high level of accountability
  • You are a creative and scrappy problem solver
  • Above all, you are bright and goal-oriented
