Positions in Risk Management lead the development of credit, operational, enterprise, and fraud policies designed to profitably grow the portfolio, while ensuring excellent customer experience. These policies utilize mathematical models and other techniques to understand and predict customer behavior. At the analyst level, the employee is beginning to develop expertise in the field. Receives general instruction on moderately complex problems and issues.

The Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) Operational Risk Excellence team is part of the first line of defense with respect to Operational Risk and Risk Remediation. Within the realm of CFR Operational Risk, the Risk Strategy Remediation team (RSRT) is responsible for the analysis of Issue impacts and determining whether remediation of a strategy action is needed.

The RSRT team is focused on the Issues impacting the U.S. Consumer and Small Business Card Members. Management of these Issues requires disciplined oversight of a portfolio which must be managed to short and fixed deadlines. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams including CFR teams, Banking, Technology, Compliance and Operational Risk teams across 1st and 2nd lines. Therefore, strong verbal and written communication as well as organizational skills is a must.

Risk analysis and remediation is accomplished by executing standardized protocols and programs as well data analytics. Ability to focus on the customer experience, adhere to protocols and execute arcuately is a must.

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing the Risk Strategy Remediation processes end-to-end with flawless execution while adhering to standards and milestones
  • Manage a portfolio of CAPs requiring Risk remediation analysis in order to meet to aggressive, fixed and short-term deadlines while collaborating in various cross-functional teams
  • Determining Risk Remediation requirements based on the unique aspects of each Issue
  • Identifying process improvement opportunities; Reduce errors, Improve efficiency
  • Providing risk remediation consultative guidance to Issue team members


Required -

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners across CFR, Operations, Technology and Compliance to achieve a common goal.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to envision ways to leverage existing capabilities and data to reduce risk events and associated risk remediation efforts.
  • Analytical ability and problem solving skills
  • Experience managing projects including ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change
  • Strong prioritization, organizational, collaboration and project management skills
  • 2+ years in an analytical/quantitative role


Desirable -

  • Master's degree
  • Knowledge of Enterprise-wide Operational Risk Management Policy
  • Experience with American Express Risk Management systems or experience with the Operational Risk infrastructure, Corrective Action timelines
  • Process mapping
  • Experience with SAS, SQL, Python, HIVE or HQL.
  • Experience with or strong understanding of technical development and process development methodologies such as Agile, Method I, Six Sigma Design
