ABOUT THIS POSITION
Waystar, the leading Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) technology company, is seeking a highly skilled data visualization engineer to join our growing Waystar Analytics team. This role requires a strong expertise in Looker and LookML to design, build, and maintain impactful data visualizations and dashboards along with a deep understanding of data modeling, semantic layer design, and translating business requirements into scalable BI solutions that empower stakeholders with data-driven insights. You will work with complex healthcare data from multiple source systems, ensuring data accuracy, reliability, and performance using modern cloud platforms like Snowflake and Google BigQuery, along with SQL, Python, SQL Server, and Postgres.WHAT YOU'LL DO
Design, develop, and maintain Looker dashboards and data models using LookML.
Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure data pipelines support business reporting needs.
Partner with product managers, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver data visualizations that drive decision-making.
Optimize dashboard performance and model efficiency.
Implement and maintain semantic layers in Looker to ensure accurate and consistent metrics across the organization.
Conduct code reviews, maintain version control of LookML, and follow best practices in Looker development.
Develop and implement ETL processes, reports, and queries in support of business analytics.
Advocate data visualization standards, consistency, and design best practices.
Educate internal teams on Looker capabilities and self-service reporting.
Monitor and troubleshoot data issues or access problems within Looker.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
2–5+ years of experience in business intelligence or data visualization roles.
Proficient in Looker and LookML with proven experience building robust, scalable dashboards and data models.
Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
Experience working with data modeling concepts (star/snowflake schemas, fact/dimension tables).
Strong communication skills to translate business questions into analytical solutions.
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Experience with dbt, Python, or other data transformation tools.
Background in data governance, metric standardization, or data quality management.
Knowledge of data privacy and security practices in analytics environments.
Experience working in Agile teams or with CI/CD pipelines for analytics.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Familiarity with other BI tools (Tableau, Power BI) for comparative understanding.
Experience with Looker Blocks, Persistent Derived Tables (PDTs), or Looker API.
Domain expertise in [healthcare, finance, SaaS, etc.].
