Why we're hiring:


The role is for a mid-level technology and data lawyer based in Mumbai but operating within the small data and technology legal team, which is part of the global WPP Media legal team. This team reports directly into the WPP Media Global General Counsel. This team primarily supports the WPP Media proprietary technology businesses, including WPP’s data and technology company ‘Choreograph’ as well as its newly acquired clean room technology company Infosum. The data and technology legal function also work closely with data governance and privacy teams, as well as product, engineering and strategy teams. This will be a high profile role within the organisation and day to day will be working directly with senior people within the business across North America, EMEA and APAC.

The work will comprise a significant proportion of contract drafting and drafting support to the technology and data functions but will also encompass a significant range of strategic advice to the business on legal issues arising in relation to the development and roll out of our technologies and data usage.

WPP Media data technologies are at the heart of the business and both the technology and the laws around the word are evolving rapidly. This is reflected in the demands placed on this role and the personal qualities that we are looking for in a successful candidate.

Travel may be required from time to time.


What you'll be doing:

Responsibilities 


Provide day-to-day advice to various parts of the business, including advising on existing or new technology products identifying and mitigating potential legal, privacy and governance risks.

• Structure, review, draft and negotiate sophisticated and complex technology-related, advertising, data and other agreements that involve a diverse set of business units within the organization. Examples include - data licenses, data processing agreements, data sharing/marketplace agreements, data matching/onboarding agreements, managed and self-service technology platforms.

• Maintain awareness of industry development and relevant legal issues, including changes to applicable data laws and new and existing technology, including AI technologies. Show interest in new and emerging technologies.

• Working closely with Legal Director and other members of the WPP Media legal team to develop and implement strategies to improve both the efficiency and quality of legal support, including through developing and revising templates, training materials and other documents.

• Support and develop legal trainees in team.

What you'll need:

Experience and Qualifications

Essential criteria:

  • • 4+ years of post-qualification experience

    • Working knowledge of privacy laws

    • Ability to apply the law practically to a complex business

    • Ability to work efficiently, prioritizing conflicting demands from multiple business leads under tight deadlines.

    • Experience with drafting innovative solutions to new issues.

    • Able to think strategically and demonstrate sound judgment/good business sense, including the ability to provide advice based on a nuanced understanding of the business.


    Bonuses, but not requirements:

    • Advertising, digital media and/or technology experience

    • In-house experience

    • Experience working with cross-border/international issues
