The Role

Fisher & Paykel is an iconic New Zealand brand, a global company with a strong local heritage. Our origins inspire our culture of curiosity and passion to develop solutions designed around people - these are some of the core elements that make us unique.

We are driven by our values of being trusted, sustainably minded, innovative, generous, and curious. As a team we take a collaborative approach and have a working environment where all ideas are heard, evaluated, and tested against our leading goal - to be the world's most human-centered appliance brand.

We are now entering a bold new chapter in our journey. Across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, we are creating a world-class three-site campus: our Global HQ in Penrose, Distribution Centre in East Tāmaki, and landmark Global Experience Centre in Grey Lynn. These hubs connect our people and our purpose, forming a centre of excellence for design, innovation and storytelling in Aotearoa.

About the role:

As the Data Scientist, you will lead and shape Fisher & Paykel’s data science and AI capability, enabling data-driven decision-making and delivering measurable business value. This role plays a critical part in driving operational efficiency and innovation across the organisation by applying advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to complex, real-world problems.

You will work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, providing technical leadership while translating data into actionable insights that influence strategy and outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own and drive Fisher & Paykel’s data science strategy, identifying and delivering opportunities to create business value through data-driven decision-making and AI.

  • Lead the development and application of advanced analytics and machine learning models to support predictive and prescriptive use cases across the business.

  • Work with large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, risks, and opportunities that inform strategic and operational decisions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define problem statements, data requirements, and success measures.

  • Provide technical leadership, direction, and guidance to the data science team across multiple initiatives and projects.

  • Ensure high standards of data quality, governance, and reproducibility, including data preparation and model performance.

  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, providing visibility of data science activity and supporting integrated, organisation-wide strategies.

That’s the role, so who you are:

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in data science, data analytics, or advanced insights roles, ideally within complex or enterprise environments.

  • Solid experience applying machine learning techniques to real-world business problems, from model development to optimisation and deployment.

  • Proven capability in data exploration, statistical analysis, and visualisation, using tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau, or Power BI to communicate insights.

  • Strong proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, modelling, and automation.

  • Skills in the libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch are beneficial.

  • Working knowledge of SQL, data pipelines, and data warehousing concepts, with experience collaborating closely with data engineering teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • A proactive, collaborative mindset with the confidence to lead, influence, and drive change through data and analytics.
