About the role
The Data Scientist plays a central role in transforming how Sigma group uses data to enhance event experiences, optimise operations, and drive innovation across the iGaming and broader events portfolio. This role is responsible for building predictive models, generating insights, developing AI‑powered capabilities, and supporting the introduction of AI tooling across the organisation.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and technical skills with creativity, curiosity, and a passion for solving complex problems using data. They will work closely with product, engineering, marketing, and event operations teams to deliver data‑driven solutions that improve customer engagement, operational efficiency, and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Insight Generation
- Analyses attendee, exhibitor, and event performance data to uncover trends, behaviours, and opportunities.
- Builds dashboards, reports, and visualisations that support decision‑making across the organisation.
- Conducts exploratory data analysis to identify patterns and inform product and business strategy.
Machine Learning & Predictive Modelling
- Develops, trains, and deploys machine learning models for use cases such as:
- attendee behaviour prediction
- personalised event recommendations
- exhibitor and sponsor performance forecasting
- churn and retention modelling
- anomaly detection for operational insights
- Monitors model performance and continuously improve accuracy, reliability, and scalability.
AI Tooling & AI‑Driven Product Development
- Supports the introduction of AI tooling across teams, including:
- automated analytics and reporting
- AI‑assisted content generation
- intelligent customer support tools
- workflow automation
- Contributes to the development of AI‑powered products and services such as:
- personalised event journeys
- AI‑driven matchmaking between attendees and exhibitors
- predictive event insights for partners and sponsors
- Ensure AI solutions follow ethical, transparent, and responsible‑AI principles.
Data Engineering & Pipeline Support
- Collaborates with DataOps and engineering teams to build and maintain reliable data pipelines.
- Ensures data quality, consistency, and availability for analytics and AI use cases.
- Supports the integration of new data sources, including event systems, CRM platforms, and third‑party tools.
Events & iGaming Analytics
- Develops insights that support the unique dynamics of live events and iGaming audiences.
- Analyses event engagement, session attendance, exhibitor interactions, and digital behaviour.
- Provides data‑driven recommendations to improve event design, marketing, and product features.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Works closely with product managers, designers, marketers, and event teams to translate business needs into analytical solutions.
- Communicates complex findings in clear, actionable ways to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Contributes to a culture of data literacy and evidence‑based decision‑making across the organisation.
Qualifications
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and machine learning frameworks
- Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
- Knowledge of cloud‑based data platforms and ML environments
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, model deployment, and MLOps practices
- Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to communicate insights clearly and persuasively
- Understanding of event‑driven user behaviour and iGaming analytics is a plus
Preferred Experience
- Educated to degree level in a numerate or technical discipline, Masters preferred.
- 5+ years of technical experience in data science, machine learning, analytics, or related fields
- 1-2+ years of management or mentorship experience (team leadership, project leadership, or guiding junior analysts)
- Experience working with event data, digital engagement analytics, or iGaming data sets
- Proven track record of developing and deploying machine learning models in production
- Experience introducing AI tooling or contributing to AI‑enabled product development
- Background working with cross‑functional teams in fast‑paced environments
