Job summary 
As a Data Scientist in the Mortgage Servicing Rights team, you leverage data science and analytics to support portfolio valuation and risk management. You partner with quantitative modelers, business stakeholders, and technology teams to define requirements and deliver trusted data products and analyses. You develop and improve tools and datasets that strengthen model valuation, back-testing, and decision-making. You manage delivery end-to-end, ensuring outputs are timely, tested, documented, and aligned to governance and security expectations. 

Job responsibilities 
 

  • Assemble, organize, and analyze data using proprietary, industry-standard, and open-source sources and tools
  • Develop, test, and maintain Python programs and utilities that support valuation modeling workflows
  • Provide analytical and data management support for the portfolio valuation model and risk management, including data-source access and local implementation support
  • Gather requirements and implement data analysis tooling into a proprietary analytics platform (Athena ASCode)
  • Translate business needs into datasets and data models supporting valuation and back-testing
  • Apply dynamic product development and implementation practices to enhance data solutions
  • Manage end-to-end project delivery, ensuring quality and timely execution
  • Support quantitative modelers and business stakeholders with data-driven insights
  • Ensure adherence to data governance and security standards
  • Document processes and maintain clear communication with cross-functional teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve data tools and analytics capabilities

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree in financial engineering, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field
  • Two years of experience in data-related development or analysis roles
  • Advanced Python proficiency for data analysis and production-quality code
  • Proficiency with SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis
  • Experience with machine learning and statistical modeling techniques, including classification, regression, and time-series forecasting
  • Experience applying generative AI and large language models to business problems, including selecting an appropriate approach
  • Knowledge of fixed income analytics and financial modeling concepts relevant to valuation and risk work
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into clear communication for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with software and business systems analysis, design, and development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including Visual Basic for Applications

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills 

  • Master’s degree in financial engineering, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field
  • Experience with performance analysis and code optimization
  • Familiarity with mortgage loan data and mortgage analytics concepts (for example, prepayment and cash flow modeling)
  • Experience implementing analytics tools into proprietary platforms such as Athena ASCode
  • Prior experience in financial services, particularly in mortgage analytics or risk management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results under tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Skills Required
