Position Summary
At AccuWeather, we are at the center of innovation, combining meteorological and atmospheric sciences with cutting-edge AI to develop groundbreaking weather-related products and services. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist III to join our dynamic and intelligent Data Science team. By joining AccuWeather, you will bring your unique perspectives and contribute to those efforts.
A non-exhaustive list of the kind of tasks you can expect to work on:
- Explore and enhance our modeling frameworks, leveraging state-of-the-art deep learning techniques and atmospheric science principles
- Design and develop new AI-driven approaches and implement them at scale in production to ensure robustness and scalability
- Apply your expertise to diverse topics, from weather phenomena prediction to long-range climate modeling, among others
- Actively contribute to the team’s daily operations, effectively communication your progress and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Take on team lead responsibilities by guiding and mentoring team members, fostering a collaborating environment and ensuring successful execution of team initiatives
Job Responsibilities
- Build and train complex machine learning models leveraging AccuWeather’s extensive data archives towards the prediction of weather phenomena from severe weather, tropical, climate, and more.
- Regularly present model findings and verifications along with areas of further refinement
- Assemble large, complex data sets that align with business requirements, ensuring data integrity and quality
- Perform extraction, transformation, loading, and optimization of data from various sources ensuring efficiency
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders including the product and executive teams to meet and exceed internal and external client expectations
- Deploy machine learning and deep learning models into production environments
Job Qualifications - 3+ years of experience in applying machine learning and deep learning algorithms (CNNs, GANs, LSTMs, etc.)
- A strong Interest and passion for image processing, feature extraction, object detection and recognition, image classification, and motion analysis
- Experience with Python (especially Numpy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn) and the main deep learning frameworks (MLflow, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Jax, etc.)
- Strong background in mathematics, including statistics and optimization
- High level of critical thinking and analysis to resolve high-impact, complex, and inter-departmental challenges effectively
- Ability to make prompt, sound decisions when faced with complex and often contradictory alternatives that result in successful outcomes
- Self-driven with strong problem-solving skills; adaptable, proactive, and willing to take ownership
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent collaboration, reporting, and analytical skills
