We are looking for a Data Scientist II to be part of Chewy’s Long Term Planning (LTP) team in Bellevue, WA, Boston, MA, Minneapolis, MN, and Plantation, FL. As a data scientist on long term planning, you will use your technical expertise to provide data-driven recommendations in monthly C-Suite reviews on the 5-to-10-year network plans impacting decisions of greater than 5 billion dollars in operational and capital expenditures. The role requires collaborating with business partners to define problems, develop scalable solutions, and provide actionable recommendations. In this role you will be responsible for ensuring efficient and resilient network plans by evaluating the effectiveness of network planning methodologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in applying data analysis and statistical modeling to drive business value.

What You’ll Do:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing network planning methodologies and identify opportunities for data science to improve network plans.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify underlying distributions, trends, and the factors driving network variability.
  • Develop and apply statistical models to evaluate proposed network plans to inform critical business decisions.
  • Validate the accuracy of proposed methods through rigorous testing and validation.
  • Collaborate with domain experts to gather requirements, identify key challenges, design experiments, and propose data-driven solutions.
  • Communicate insights and recommendations to the senior leadership team to make informed decisions on future network plans.
  • Define and operationalize best practices and stay current with industry trends in data science, statistical analysis, and network planning.

What you’ll Need

  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or other quantitative field.
  • 2+ years relevant experience developing data science solutions to solve real world problems.
  • Ability to manage the entire data science lifecycle from data preparation and exploratory analysis to model development, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Experience in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Java, R, etc.).
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate broad business objectives into data-driven solutions within an ambiguous problems space.
  • Demonstrated ability to turn complex data and analysis into simple business recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain details of complex concepts to non-expert stakeholders in a simple and understandable way.

Bonus:

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services tools such as Redshift, Snowflake, SageMaker or other similar platforms.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and packages (Tableau or similar).
  • Familiarity with e-commerce supply chain operations and/or network planning concepts.
