Position Overview:Finning is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Data Quality Analyst Intern to support critical data quality initiatives across asset and customer records. This role will play an important part in improving the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data used by business systems, customer-facing platforms, and digital integrations. The work is structured, repetitive, and detail-focused, requiring someone who can maintain accuracy and consistency while completing a high volume of similar validation and remediation tasks.
Working closely with data, business, and technology teams, you will help identify, investigate, validate, and resolve data issues while contributing to a major business transformation initiative. A significant portion of this role will involve contacting customers by phone to confirm or gather information, so comfort with professional phone conversations, follow-up, and accurate note-taking is essential. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or early-career professional looking to gain hands-on experience in data management, data governance, business systems, and digital transformation.
This role may be based in either Edmonton or Calgary for 4-6 months in duration in a hybrid work environment.

Job Description:
What You'll Do 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Review, validate, and update asset and customer data across multiple systems. 
  • Perform data cleansing and remediation activities to improve data accuracy and completeness. 
  • Conduct frequent customer outreach, primarily by phone, to validate, confirm, and enrich customer and asset information. 
  • Complete repetitive data validation, data entry, and follow-up activities with a high level of consistency and attention to detail. 
  • Investigate data discrepancies and identify root causes of recurring data quality issues. 
  • Track phone outreach outcomes, customer responses, and required follow-up actions clearly and accurately. 
  • Document findings, patterns, and recommendations to support long-term improvements. 
  • Maintain accurate records of completed updates and audit trails. 
  • Support reporting and measurement of data quality improvements and business outcomes. 
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to prioritize and resolve issues. 

What We're Looking For 

Required Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a post-secondary program in:  Information Technology or Data Analytics or Business Analysis or Business Administration Or a related field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. 
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence making professional phone calls to customers. 
  • Comfortable performing repetitive, detail-oriented work for extended periods while maintaining accuracy and quality. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting research, data validation, customer outreach
  • Experience or being comfortable with engaging customers via telephone to collect, verify, and update key information.
  • Experience working with databases, SQL, Fabric, Power BI, AI, or related tools. 
  • Understanding of data quality, data governance, or master data management principles. 
  • Familiarity with ERP, CRM, or enterprise business systems is an asset.
