Data Protection Engineer

Position Summary: 

• Manage, maintain, and provide engineering and administrative support for enterprise backup/recovery solutions and VMware environments; 

• Ensure applications and systems meet business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) requirements; 

• Manage data retention lifecycle for compliance and archival storage of data; 

• Responsible for hardware associated with enterprise backup/recovery solutions;

• Responsible for server hardware associated with VMware environments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Implement and operate tactical plans that align with management-defined strategies to meet corporate, divisional, and team goals; 

• Implement and maintain backup policies, schedules, and standards; 

• Plan and execute proactive and reactive BC/DR activities; 

• Interact with customers to understand and deliver data protection solutions that meet their requirements; 

• Create documentation related to backup/recovery solutions;

• VMware administration including build, deploy, and patch management.  

Qualifications: 

• 7+ years’ experience supporting data protection programs and technologies;

• Minimum 2 years' experience supporting VMware programs and technologies;

• Ability to establish and maintain data protection architecture, policies, procedures, and schedules;

• Ability to troubleshoot networks and perform VMware system administration; 

• Prior experience managing BC/DR program or participation in related activities; 

• Demonstrated skills in decision making/judgement and initiative; 

• Possess interpersonal skills and organizational savvy; 

• English (reading, writing and speaking).

Optional Desired Qualifications: 

• Global infrastructure support experience preferred; 

• Exposure to system administration, engineering, or scripting/programming desired; 

• Exposure to other facets of IT helpful; 

• Exposure to Cohesity backup solutions is helpful;

• Knowledge of PCI requirements and controls desired; 

• Knowledge of Office 365/MS Teams/MS Notes desired. 

Education and Certifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; 

• ITIL certification preferred;

• VMware certification desired but not required.
