The Opportunity
As a Data Platform Engineer you will be helping to build products and tools for other teams at Takeda, such as machine learning and analytics tools or serverless data pipelines. Our team make decisions that have a significant impact on Takeda, and there is a lot of work to be done to make Takeda's data engineers and scientists' work easier and our platform more reliable and fully featured. You will be building data solutions and in driving new processes using cloud native tooling and infrastructure-as-code.
Responsibilities

  • Data infrastructure engineers must pair with product and engineering teams to understand their needs and build data infrastructure to help them solve complex data use cases; creating practical, useful, and flexible tools, processes, and code to help us deliver this at scale to a huge swath of data projects within Takeda is our primary goal.
  • This role requires a strong cloud engineering background and experience with data-specific infrastructure and tools. We use infrastructure-as-code (IaC) like CloudFormation and Terraform to automate the provisioning of infrastructure at scale, so experience with distributed systems on AWS is a must, although learning independently and quickly is even more important.
  • Building data infrastructure is one thing and maintaining is another; our team must do both, so knowledge and experience across the infrastructure stack is critical. While we spend a lot of time thoughtfully designing CloudFormation and automating deployments, we also must be able to debug production issues in a Unix shell and with databases.
  • Our technology stack is diverse but focused on AWS and data analytics tools. A sample of the stack: CloudFormation, serverless (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, Glue, SQS) and servers (EC2, RDS, Redshift, Neptune), and everything in between. We must both build and support the underlying infrastructure that all of Takeda's analytics and data processing tools run on as well. This stack is constantly evolving based on what works best, and this role would be a key influencer in that evolution.
  • Our team is highly cross-functional, and collaboration across all mediums with business stakeholders, software engineers, data scientists, and data engineers across all of Takeda's business units requires excellent communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent
  • 4+ years of experience in cloud/software engineering, ideally in a data-intensive environment
  • Experience building infrastructure as a product centered around users' requirements
  • Extensive experience with AWS and its underlying services, including experience with scaling and migrating systems in a changing environment that allows for little to no downtime
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and debugging distributed systems on AWS
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend the right technology platforms and software products to solve business problems.
  • Experience with big data architecture and solutions and the infrastructure that make them up is critical, and a passion for enabling data-driven decision making.
