About the Role
We are seeking a talented Data Platform Engineer Apprentice to join our Data Platform team. In this role, you will contribute to building the next-generation data infrastructure and platform that powers Glassdoor's analytics, data science, machine learning models, and product offerings. You will work closely with incredibly experienced engineers to design and develop scalable data platforms, enabling high-quality data workflows and solutions for Glassdoor. This is an excellent opportunity to deepen your understanding of data platforms and software engineering while making a tangible impact on our business. This role will report into the Engineering Manager of the Data Platform.
- This is only a six-month role that is part of Glassdoor's Internship Program
- This role is open to current undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates.
Hourly pay rate: $40/hrWhat You’ll Do
- Design and Develop Scalable Data Applications: Work with a variety of technologies to build and optimize data platform components that support real-time, batch processing, and ML model training.
- Automate Data Workflows: Use tools like Apache Airflow to automate and enhance data pipelines, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate on Data Infrastructure Projects: Assist in creating solutions on AWS using services such as Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, EMR, S3, and others to contribute to the overall architecture and design of our data platform.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala, with a solid understanding of software engineering principles and object-oriented design patterns.
- Collaborative Mindset: Excellent communication skills and a willingness to work closely with team members across different functions.
- Interest in Big Data Processing: Foundational knowledge and enthusiasm for parallel and distributed computing frameworks like Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Hive.
- Passion for AIOps and Automation: Eagerness to learn about Artificial Intelligence Operations (AIOps), machine learning lifecycle, and automation tools that enhance system reliability and performance.
- Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to approach complex problems methodically and contribute innovative solutions.
Nice to Have
- Foundational Cloud Experience: Basic knowledge of AWS services (such as S3, EC2, Lambda) and concepts like Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation or Terraform.
- Understanding of Data Infrastructure: Familiarity with building and maintaining data platforms, data architecture, and modeling concepts.
- Experience with Linux Systems: Comfortable working in Unix/Linux environments, including basic shell scripting and system navigation.
