Role: Migration (Data) Engineer
Team: Migration Team - Analytics Services

Scope: Fractional/Temp Work - data migration project

The Data Migration Engineer plays a pivotal role in the seamless transition from Health Catalyst DOS to the new Ignite platform. This role will be responsible for the technical activities of migration, which will include migrating and re-engineering data marts in Databricks, building new BI applications and/or migrating existing applications to point to new platform, troubleshooting issues, and validating to ensure the new Ignite versions match DOS as expected.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Migrate client data marts and reports from the DOS legacy system to new Ignite platform
- Migrate some or all components of legacy DOS data models into new platform, includes potential for re-factor and new development
- Re-point BI layer to new platform, includes building measures and visualizations within BI layer
- Migrate one visualization tool to another (Power BI to Tableau)
- Identify and fix issues during migration that require remediation
- Lead data validation tests to ensure consistent results between two platforms
- Follow established processes and document findings according to Health Catalyst standards
What you'll bring to this role:
- Experience writing and optimizing Databricks queries with performance and efficiency in mind
- Understanding of Extract, Load, and Transform processes.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects
- Willingness to learn new technology and methodologies
- Experience with Tableau and Power BI, developing visualizations and reporting that consume data models for non-technical users
Required Experience:
- Strong experience as a Data Engineer with knowledge of Source Control/git/ADO, VS Code, Databricks
- Technical experience in multiple competencies; data query, data movement (ELT), data modeling, and BI visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik). Strong expertise in Tableau.
- Process improvement mindset to optimize processes, provide innovative ideas for automated tooling enhancements, and other ways to reduce migration timeline
- Solid project management and organization skills
- Ability to create documentation for future migration teams
- Ability to mentor/train/educate others
- Ability to independently learn new software tools quickly and ask for help or training when necessary
- Ability to adapt quickly and change direction as needed to address client needs
- Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplinary stakeholders to prioritize the project management deliverables and understand risk and/or impact
Nice to Have Skills:
- Scripting experience, Python preferred
