POSITION SUMMARY:
The Data Management Analyst is responsible for assisting with harnessing the data available in our EHR system to improve our clinics’ operations and our patients’ health. The Data Analyst plays a key role by extracting data from the EHR and transforming it into intelligent, actionable reports.
The position involves understanding the data needs of agency staff, mastering the intricacies of our
EHR system (front-end and back-end), writing complex SQL queries, presenting data in user-friendly
ways, and automating reports where possible. In addition to PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server, the data analyst will use a variety of technologies, from Excel to Crystal Reports to COGNOS, as well as some Ruby scripting and other automation tools.
Essential Functions:
- Write complex SQL queries to extract data from the EHR
- Build a reusable library of reports in Excel, Crystal, and Cognos
- Develop a deep familiarity with the EHR application and its database schema
- Correctly interpret precise report specifications
- Handle requests from internal customers and clarify their reporting needs
- Maintain and enhance our reporting infrastructure and tools (ETL scripts, view definitions,
automation tools, new self-serve reporting options, etc.)
- Develop and maintain dashboards to monitor NCQA and HEDIS clinical measures.
- Provide help desk assistance to end users on our Medical Management system
- Create and develop forms for the collection of data, and work with other staff install areas to improve the collection data
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other healthcare related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years of experience, including a focus on data analysis and other skills relevant to data management, preferably in healthcare
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Excellent logical reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Ability to write complex SQL queries
- General computer wizardry and ability to learn new programs quickly
- Expert with one or more of the following: Excel, Crystal, Cognos, or similar reporting tool
- Some experience with scripting languages such as Python or Ruby, or a desire and aptitude to learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter and impact player
- Interest in and commitment to CHN’s mission
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or healthcare-related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years of data analysis/data management experience, preferably in healthcare
- Ability to write complex SQL queries
