What’s the role
Data Intern will support the U.S. Direct Tax team in building a structured and governed Tax Data Landscape across Federal and State processes. This role will focus on documenting ongoing tax data flows to prepare for advanced analytics and AI/GenAI applications, forming a critical part of Shell’s Digital Finance and Tax transformation agenda.
What you’ll be doing
- Identify and document tax-relevant data sources across enterprise systems (SAP, tax tools, data platforms, Excel-based models).
- Document and develop Tax Data Inventory and review metadata repository.
- Map end-to-end data lineage and flows (ERP → adjustments → provision → filings).
- Create process maps and data flow diagrams for key tax adjustments and processes.
- Support the development of a standardized Tax Data Model and taxonomy.
- Analyze and document data quality issues; propose validation rules and controls.
- Prepare structured datasets and documentation to support AI/GenAI use cases (e.g., automation, knowledge bases).
- Collaborate with US MDT Tax team members, Finance, and IT stakeholders to gather requirements and validate outputs.
What you bring
- Currently pursuing a degree in:
- Data Analytics/Data Science
- Information Systems/Computer Science
- Strong Excel skills; familiarity with Power BI or Tableau
- Basic knowledge of SQL, Python, and data modeling concepts
- Understanding of data structures, databases, and ETL processes
- Exposure to SAP or enterprise systems is a plus
- Interest in AI/GenAI and data-driven transformation
- Familiarity with data governance or data cataloging concepts
- An Indian Citizen or Permanent Resident
