Data Governance Officer

The Data Governance Officer will support the implementation of the Data Governance framework, platform, policies, and processes at Bank of Georgia. The role is responsible for supporting the governance and quality of the Bank’s data assets.

The officer will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the Data Intelligence Platform. They will work closely with Business Data Stewards, Data Owners, IT teams, and other stakeholders to support data governance activities and ensure adherence to governance standards.

The role will also contribute to strengthening the data governance culture across the organization through coordination, mentoring, quality oversight, and awareness activities.

Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or large-scale data-related projects.

• Strong understanding of Data Governance principles, frameworks, and best practices.

• Experience in one or more of the following areas: Data Warehouse development, Master Data Management (MDM), Data Modelling, or ETL processes.

• Practical knowledge of data cataloging concepts, including data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata management.

• Experience with Data Governance platforms is considered a strong advantage.

• Proficiency in SQL for querying, extracting, and analyzing data.

• Understanding of Data Quality Management, Data Privacy, Data Security, and regulatory compliance (including the Law of Georgia on Personal Data Protection) is considered a plus.

• Experience in documenting data processes, preparing governance procedures and standards, and creating process documentation (e.g., BPMN diagrams).

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to act as a liaison between business units, IT teams, and leadership.

• Experience working in the banking or financial sector, or with financial data, will be considered an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for operational management and maintenance of the Data Governance platform.

• Collaboration with Business Data Stewards

  • Act as a primary point of contact for Business Data Stewards across the organization.

• Mentoring and Guidance

  • Maintaining governance procedures and operating model

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to Business Data Stewards and other data governance participants.

• Quality Control of Data Stewardship Activities

  • Ensure the quality and consistency of metadata and stewardship activities.

• Data Lineage and Metadata Management

  • Support the documentation and maintenance of data lineage and metadata structures.

  • Following up on data quality, metadata, lineage, and ownership gaps until closure.

• Data Quality Coordination

  • Coordinating issue resolution and escalation.

  • Involvement in governance committees

  • Support data quality management activities and coordination with relevant teams.

• Data Governance Process Support

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Data Governance processes.

  • Tracking policy compliance and control execution.

  • Monitoring framework adoption by domain/business area.

• Monitoring, Reporting and Governance Metrics

  • Monitor and report on Data Governance progress and adoption.
