Overview of Role

The Data Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of data engineers in  the design, development, and implementation of data pipelines and data warehouses on Google Cloud Platform. The role involves handling OLTP type workloads, including Spanner implementation, database migrations, and other related tasks.The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data engineering principles and practices,as well as experience with Google Cloud Platform to effectively manage and optimize these OLTP workloads

Responsibilities

  • Be a self-motivated and collaborative data engineer who is able to work  independently and as part of a team.
  • Lead a team of data engineers in the design, development, and implementation of data pipelines and data warehouses on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Work with external and internal stakeholders to understand their data needs and develop solutions that meet those needs.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest data engineering trends and technologies.
  • Mentor and develop data engineers on the team.
  • Represent the team to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee and ensure the performance of offshore resources, providing guidance and support as needed.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering with a strong understanding of principles and best practices. 
  • 2+ years of experience in team management; leading and guiding a team of data engineers, providing mentorship, technical direction, and support.
  • Expertise in utilizing GCP data products and services, including BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Dataproc, Pub/Sub, Cloud Sql, Spanner etc.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, such as data modeling, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), and data quality management.
  • Experience in database migrations or OLTP database implementation/modeling.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in designing and developing data pipelines and
    data warehouses on GCP, with a focus on delivering high-quality data solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, enabling the identification of data engineering challenges and the implementation of effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and present data insights to senior management.
  • A commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in GCP data products and industry best practices, driving continuous improvement in data engineering processes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field or equivalent work experience.
