We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the data engineering team building a self serve analytics platform that powers the needs of product analysts across all of Zalando ecommerce platform experiences.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of exceptional engineers who work closely with product analysts, product manager and commercial teams to build the self serve analytics platform. This role provides a unique opportunity to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists and product analysts to shape the technical direction, and oversee the end to end execution of projects as well as evolve ways of working of the team and department overall.
Together with our Leadership, you will work on the future strategy and vision for our teams.
WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

Manage a team of talented software engineers building mission-critical data platform services that serve analytics and insights needs.

Building, growing, managing, leading, and inspiring a product-driven team while ensuring smooth delivery and continuous improvement.

Taking architectural decisions, contributing to the priorities, understanding the modern data landscape and its importance.

Establishing a customer centric, high-performing engineering culture.

Coaching of engineers at all levels.

Managing stakeholders and dependencies, working closely with data scientists, and the product counterparts on solution planning, design and implementation.

Empowering the team to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and how to apply them into our area. Setting a high bar of engineering and operational excellence in terms of scalability, latency, reliability and overall efficiency
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
-
A strong and self-driven leader who has a very good understanding of technical landscapes and has been supporting a team of data engineers in the past. Ideally, 10+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years in people management and technical leadership.

Hands-on experience with software development, especially data engineering, building analytical data products using modern libraries and frameworks.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English with an ability to articulate complex technical topics and solutions in a concise and simple way.

Experience promoting inclusive culture practices and processes that are models for others.

You have practical experience in data infrastructure, industry AWS services like (Redshift, S3, managed airflow), Airflow, Databricks, Google Analytics, GCP and BigQuery, data visualization and data Quality tools.

Passion for coaching and growing software engineers at all levels.

Experience in managing multiple stakeholders and ability to drive/oversee the delivery of multiple workstreams

Strong drive and entrepreneurial spirit to partner with product analysts, product managers, science/engineering managers and principals to connect and solve business problems.

Experience in developing long-term engineering roadmaps and strong project management skills
