Job DescriptionProgram: Internship Program
Department: Engineering / Manufacturing / Process / Data Analytics (varies by team)
Duration: 2–6 months (typical)
Target Onboarding: June/July 2026
Role Overview
We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented interns from Data Science and Engineering-related disciplines to join our technical teams. This internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world engineering, manufacturing, and data analytics projects. Interns will support process improvement, data analysis, and technical investigations while working closely with engineers and cross-functional partners.
This role is ideal for students who want practical experience in advanced manufacturing, process engineering, and data-driven problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in analyzing engineering and manufacturing data to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities
- Support process monitoring, optimization, and documentation activities
- Work with engineers on experiments, tests, and technical evaluations
- Help develop dashboards and reports for operational and process metrics
- Participate in problem-solving and root cause analysis activities
- Contribute to design of experiments (DOE) and statistical studies
- Support data cleaning, validation, and ETL-related tasks
- Prepare technical summaries and presentations of findings
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on assigned projects
This position is part of our Early Career program at WD. Our Early Career program is designed to support individuals beginning their professional career by providing the foundational training through a structured onboarding, mentorship, and development curriculum
Qualifications- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or has equivalent experience in any of the following majors or related programs:
- Computer Science
- Data Science
- Industrial Engineering
- Statistics
- Physics
- Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics
- Materials Science
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with large datasets and technical information
- Detail-oriented with a structured and organized approach to tasks
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Technical Skills (Preferred — not all required)
- Basic knowledge of precision mechanics and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with thin-film processes and contamination control concepts
- Understanding of metrology tools (e.g., AFM, profilometry) is a plus
Exposure to:
- Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Failure analysis methods
Programming / Analytics Tools:
- Python or R
- SQL
Data & Reporting Tools:
- Power BI or Tableau
- Data visualization techniques
Fundamentals of:
- Statistical modeling
- Machine learning basics
- ETL processes
