Position Overview:
Mid-level Data Engineer responsible for leading performance management, analytics, and reporting initiatives while designing and maintaining scalable data infrastructure to support program operations. This role partners across technical and business teams to ensure data quality, integration, and actionable insights through dashboards, reporting, and data governance practices.
Duties:
- Lead the development, maintenance, and governance of data systems across programmatic, financial, geographic, and performance datasets
- Design and manage data models, schemas, and workflows to ensure consistency, accuracy, and reliability across multiple programs and initiatives
- Establish and document data standards, definitions, and quality control processes to support internal operations and external reporting
- Integrate data from multiple systems into centralized, usable formats by collaborating with internal teams and external vendors
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards and reports to communicate program status, performance metrics, financial activity, and geographic insights
- Utilize DAX to create measures and calculations that support consistent and repeatable analytics
- Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis from relational databases and enterprise systems
- Ensure analytics products are scalable, repeatable, and aligned with leadership and stakeholder reporting needs
- Manage publishing, access controls, and lifecycle of analytics products in compliance with data governance and security policies
- Support leadership in defining performance metrics and key indicators for programs and infrastructure initiatives
- Produce internal and public-facing reports, dashboards, and visualizations to support decision-making and transparency
- Assist with federal and state reporting requirements, including compliance, monitoring, and outcomes reporting
- Collaborate with GIS teams and contractors to align tabular data with geographic datasets and mapping requirements
- Support the integration of GIS outputs into dashboards and reporting products
- Serve as a subject-matter expert on data-related decisions, advising leadership on data quality, analytics approaches, and reporting strategies
- Prepare executive-level briefings, presentations, and summaries for leadership and external stakeholders
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated solid experience writing and optimizing SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis
- Experience with basic to intermediate Power BI development, including building reports and dashboards
- Experience with general data modeling concepts, including designing schemas and data structures
- Experience integrating data from multiple sources into centralized and usable formats
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse and complex datasets across multiple domains
Preferred Skills:
- Experience optimizing DAX calculations and measures within Power BI for enhanced performance and usability
- Familiarity with GIS concepts, spatial data structures, and mapping integrations
- Understanding of data governance principles, including data quality, standards, and lifecycle management
- Experience supporting federal reporting requirements, including compliance and data submissions
- Advanced GIS skills, including working with spatial analysis and mapping tools
- Advanced Power BI administration experience, including workspace management, security, and deployment
- Experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, or similar) for data processing or automation
