We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our Agile FRED development team. In this role, you will help build and maintain the data pipelines, systems, and tools that enable FRED and related applications—including ALFRED—to deliver accurate, timely, and accessible economic data.
Design, implement, and maintain databases and workflows that support data ingestion, storage, and access.
Identify data sources, build data decomposition and flow diagrams, and document data processes clearly and thoroughly.
Develop production-ready Python code for database access, data transformation, and stored procedures.
Lead discussions with team members, business owners, and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Validate large datasets and perform bulk updates as needed.
Build tools and automation capabilities that improve data processing efficiency and system reliability.
Collaborate closely with software engineers, data experts, and other cross-functional partners to ensure accurate implementation of requirements.
Coordinate testing, deployment, and project activities across the team and stakeholders.
Identify, propose, and implement improvements to internal procedures as technology and data environments evolve.
Provide backup production support when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Database Administration, Economics, Finance, or a closely related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- At least 3 years of experience writing production-quality Python code.
- Experience with Docker containers and Linux operating systems.
- Experience working with economic or statistical data.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Production-ready SQL experience.
Preferred Experience:
- ETL (extract, transform, load) processes.
- Amazon Web Services (ECS, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS).
- Grafana.
- Terraform.
- Git or other version control systems.
- Agile development methodologies.
Other Requirements and Considerations:
Sponsorship is not available for this role. The selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility for this specific position requires U.S. Citizenship.
Candidates with deeper or broader experience may be considered for a higher grade level.

Salary: $90,000 - $120,000
