Job Description
SUMMARY
The Data Engineer is an inquisitive and detail-oriented individual excited to build a career transforming healthcare data into actionable insights. With foundational experience in Python, PySpark, and cloud data tools, they assist in developing and maintaining ETL pipelines and contribute to documentation, testing, and pipeline reliability. They bring curiosity and humility to standups and planning meetings, ask insightful questions, and contribute steadily to the team’s goals. Working in a Scrum environment, they communicate clearly with peers and take feedback well as they ramp up on data modeling, version control, and healthcare data nuances.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines by writing Python or PySpark scripts to ingest, transform, and validate data from various sources under the guidance of senior team members.
- Assist with data modeling and schema design for structured datasets in collaboration with analytics or application teams.
- Use Git to manage code versioning, pull requests, and collaborate with other engineers.
- Perform unit tests and conduct reviews with other team members to make sure your code is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and effectively tuned for performance
- Contribute to technical documentation of data workflows, pipelines, and transformations.
- Support feature flag testing workflows for controlled releases in development or QA environments.
- Perform exploratory work and share early findings using Amazon SageMaker notebooks or equivalent Jupyter environments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in - Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or Statistics.
- Python & PySpark (0–2 yrs) – Assisted in building ETL pipelines for structured and semi-structured data.
- Airflow (0–1 yr) – Supported DAG development and gained familiarity with pipeline orchestration.
- AWS S3 & Glue (0–1 yr) – Loaded data into cloud storage and supported basic transformations.
- Git & Jupyter (0-1 yr) – Used notebooks for prototyping and Git for version control.
- Docker/Kubernetes (0–1 yr) – Demonstrated foundational knowledge of containerization and orchestration concepts; capable of supporting Docker-based packaging and understanding Kubernetes-managed deployments in a team environment.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations affecting Pareto Intelligence.
- Responsible for participating in quality assurance, compliance and in-service and continuing education activities as requested by Pareto Intelligence.
Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:
This role requires the ability to work in a macOS environment with basic exposure to data tools. The candidate should be comfortable using Teams for collaboration and JupyterLab for exploratory work.

- Jira & Confluence (logging test results, documenting pipeline flow)
The expected base salary for this position ranges from $90,000 – 110,000 with a bonus target of up to 5% of the base salary. We do consider a wide range of factors when making offer decisions, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate’s relevant skills, training, experience, education and where applicable, licensure and certifications obtained. We also consider organizational and market factors when making offer decisions.
