We are now looking for an additional Data Engineer to enhance our Software and Data Engineering capacity to develop the analytics, analytic applications and analytic platforms in support of our business insights. As a key member of the Analytics Engineering Team, you will be part of UnitedHealth Group's mission of helping people live healthier lives. You will work with other Software/Data Engineers and Data Scientists along with subject matter experts to deliver code with high quality for our applications, products and services.
Primary Responsibilities of the Data Engineer:
- Design, code, test, document, and maintain high-quality and scalable Big Data and Analytic solutions
- Build and optimize data workflows and pipelines using Python, PySpark, and SQL to process large-scale datasets efficiently.
- Develop and maintain integrations with other platforms and systems using RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
- Assist with research, evaluate, and deploy new tools, frameworks and patterns to build a sustainable Analytic platform
- Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement of existing solutions
- Be innovative in solution design and development to meet the needs of the business
- Analyze and define customer requirements
- Collaborate on prototypes, proof-of-concepts & design and code reviews
- Write technical documentation and participate in production support.
- Keep skills up to date through ongoing self-directed training

Required Qualifications of the Data Engineer:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
- Proficient in Python and SQL for data processing and analysis
- Experience in a big data environment building data processing pipelines
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs
- Background using relational databases (e.g., MySQL or PostgreSQL)
Preferred Qualifications of the Data Engineer:
- Experience with PySpark (or other frameworks) for distributed data processing large-scale datasets
- Experience in developing applications on at least one major cloud platform (Azure preferred)
- Experience designing, implementing and working with microservices architecture
- Experience in messaging and streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka)
- Experience working with healthcare data
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience attending and participating in scrum agile ceremonies
