Job Title: Data Engineer
Reports to: Senior Data Engineer
Role Summary:
The Data Engineer is a key member of the development team, responsible for building and maintaining optimized and highly available data pipelines. They’re expected to build data processing frameworks that handle the business’s growing databases, while promoting the development of new insights for the business. They are ultimately expected to partner with Development, Finance, Analytics, Marketing, Sales, Customer Support, and leadership in order to leverage data with reporting and scientific tooling. The data engineer is expected to contribute to the continual improvement of the business’ data platforms through their observations and well-researched knowledge. They should keep track of industry best practices and trends, and take initiative on system improvements.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Responsible for the design, deployment, and maintenance of the business’s data platforms
- Own architectural processes and decisions for various data models within the organization
- Develop and maintain new data collection systems
- Work cross functionally with various departments, including but not limited to: leadership, the development team, the finance team, and the data science team, in order to convert data into understandable information for other professionals
- Provide mentorship to team members on database and SQL best practices
- Support data science and machine learning initiatives in multiple frameworks: NLP, LLM, and linear regression
- Ensure implemented data systems have relevant security
Required Skills/Competencies/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (masters’ preferred) in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or any other technology related field. An equivalent of this educational requirement in working experience is also acceptable.
- 5+ years professional database development experience, preferably as a Data Engineer in a fast-paced environment and complex business setting
- Expert level knowledge of SQL with focus on writing and optimizing queries
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining reliable and scalable ETL on big data platforms as well as experience working with varied forms of data infrastructure inclusive of relational databases
- Experience with data warehousing inclusive of dimensional modeling concepts
- Proficiency in scripting languages and machine learning
- Expert problem solving ability and maker’s mentality; Vast experience designing & architecting new features and solutions from scratch
- Eagerness to discover innovative ways to work faster and more efficiently, while balancing competing concerns (tech debt, cost, security, complexity, etc.)
- Initiative to find and fix bugs before shipping; experience writing good test coverage, especially for complex flows; ability to quickly troubleshoot bugs
- Proactive communication, both written and spoken, and excellent ability to work well with others, in-person and remotely
- Courage when it comes to raising concerns and asking questions
- Ability to stay up-to-date with new frameworks and tools to speed up development, while keeping a sharp eye out for potential vulnerabilities and edge cases
Work Environment:
- The candidate in this position will be primarily located in an office environment and be exposed to lighting, temperature, and noise level conditions typical of that environment
- This position is primarily in-person, with an expectation of in-person work at the physical office location in Austin, Texas a minimum of three (3) days per week
Physical Demands:
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods of time
- Ability to move about/traverse office areas
- Ability to effectively communicate with other employees/team members

Salary:
$135,000 - $155,000, DOE
