Position Overview:

The Data Engineer at Fullbay will serve as a thought leader and mid-senior expert in database engineering, specializing in the design, development, and management of data systems. This role requires deep expertise in database engineering design, problem resolution, staying abreast of industry trends, and emerging technologies. Key responsibilities include building and managing the data infrastructure and transformation backend, integrating technologies such as Snowflake and Redshift, and developing front-end data visualizations with tools like DB Quicksight. The successful candidate will partner with leadership to develop strategies, set directions, and plan and execute database administration priorities focused on security, risk management, scalability, and reliability. 


Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the data backend integrating multiple sources such as SnowFlake, MySQL DB, Dynamo DB, and S3.
  • Design and maintain ETL pipelines to support continuous updates to the backend infrastructure.
  • Deliver data visualizations that provide insights, enable reporting, and meet customer needs through APIs and other access patterns.
  • Lead incident management, overseeing critical incidents from inception through resolution, including conducting root cause analysis.
  • Document new technologies and facilitate knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Enhance system security and integrity, aligning with the company’s commitment to risk management by protecting system data and ensuring compliance with enterprise and departmental policies.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, focusing on compute and storage capacity expansion, database hardening, and patching.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications that ensure data design and system architecture meet service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Implement proactive system monitoring and alerting to establish automatic corrective actions.
  • Design technical product architecture, handling system installation, configuration, and performance management.
  • Drive change management, influencing cross-functional teams and fostering an environment conducive to progressive and strategic changes.
  • Set achievable goals in a complex environment with competing priorities.
  • Facilitate collaboration and support within the team, enhancing teamwork and project outcomes.
  • Mentor and guide other Database Engineers, providing leadership and developmental support.
  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to deeply understand requirements and foster partnerships that ensure database services are reliable, performant, and cost-effective.
  • Support comprehensive data management, overseeing the entire data lifecycle within a medallion architecture framework to maintain system and data integrity.
  • Adheres to all confidentiality and compliance regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5-10 years of data-related experience, with proficiency in AWS, SQL, DynamoDB, and Python or Java.
  • Expertise in designing, implementing, and supporting systems with clustering, replication, partitioning, encryption, and high availability/disaster recovery.
  • Strong background in data management, architecture, and large-scale system implementations.
  • Hands-on experience in deploying secure, high-performance database systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to discuss technical details with various stakeholders.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in cloud-based database and analytics technologies, including AWS Glue, RDS, EC2, Spark, and similar technologies.
  • Strong understanding of NoSQL, columnar, and big data analytics platforms like Redshift, Spark, Snowflake, and embedded analytics solutions like Looker, ThoughtSpot, AWS QuickSight.
